They say memes and satirical narratives are an art form in themselves. This time, I've wrapped it in digital comic style!

"Rise of the Rifters".

Some of the ships in Eve just have such a unique design that they become a fan favorite. The Rifter is certainly one of those that almost everyone likes. Or at least I never have heard anyone say they don't like the design. This T1 frigate also encapsulates the "humble beginnings". It's one of the first ships one can effectively PvP with and one of the first vessels one will lose. It's not a shiny ship, but because of that, it can quickly become part of your personal history in New Eden.

A few months ago I finally had a short break in the production of the board game. I was right in the middle of creating hundreds of pieces of art for cards and everything that the game needed and constantly fighting against creative burn-out. So I decided to create two new pieces in an entirely new technique. This piece above is of the new Havoc spaceship the Khizriel (there is one of the Mekubal as well) and I created these in a Frank Miller inspired graphic style using purely flat shapes.

This is a very early progress.

Another one a little later on. There is a thin sketch layer turned off under these, but tbh I mostly just freehanded these since they were mostly shapes. Kind of like putting a puzzle together. The real trick with this technique is figuring out what to include and what to ignore, how much detail to accept and what details to reject. There were numerous and constant changes, deletions, and re-starts as a result of going down the wrong path.

Detail of the final piece. The splatter effect in the background is from a custom brush I created from coffee drips on napkins scanned into Photoshop. Both of these posters are available in various sizes and on metal in my store at rixxjavix.com
