I've watched Civil War and Monkey Man in the last week and boy are they both excellent.
Excellent for vastly different reasons though - Civil War had me in absolute awe at what I'd just watched, to the point where I'm considering it one of my favourite films of all time, but at the same time I never want to watch it again. It hits hard, especially as someone in journalism (albeit gaming journalist rather than war photography, which certainly comes with less risk it's safe to say!) Those thoughts may change as I reflect on it more over the coming days, but I haven't been that enthralled in a film for a long while.
Monkey Man, on the other hand, is just gory, cinematic, action-fueled chaos. Very John Wick-inspired with slightly less combat and a few more slower moments, but overall just a terrific film.
Can highly recommend both if anyone fancies a cinema double-bill!
