Films can tell stories of people that are often overlooked in history and that's what makes them so good in my opinion!
With pride month coming up, what are people's favourite LGBT+ films?
Mine are:
Carol - Adapted from the book The price of Salt, Carol is a story about a young women named Therese falling in love with an older woman called Carol (Played by Cate Blanchett!), who must chose between living her life as a lesbian openly, or giving up custody of her son. The soundtrack of this film is beautiful <3 It's a very quiet story that is so so devastating
I killed my mother - Directed by Xavier Dolan at aged 18(!!!) I killed my mother is a film that explores a teenager's journey with his sexuality and his tumultuous relationship with his mother. Xavier Dolan's style is one of my favourites; this film mirrors his immaturity as a director in its messiness, but it works!
Moonlight - This is my FAVOURITE film of all time! It follows Chiron through his childhood years, his adolescence and his adulthood. Not only is this film about his coming of age, it's also an amazing commentary on how being African American interacts with masculinity and sexuality in modern America
The Bisexual - This is a mini-series directed by Desiree Akhavan and is probably the lightest of the bunch if you are looking for more of a comedy. It is about an openly Lesbian woman learning she is bisexual, and a really good insight into workings of the early 2000s lesbian scene.
