Yea, was about to comment on that, but then i realized- topic title and description are about different things! I'll try to find a good example

Oops! That might have been before my time here!

Oh not an issue at all I just wanted to let you know haha. There's nothing wrong with heading back to an old bounty and renewing it as a discussion either. I keep going back to one that's like three months old lol to talk found footage horror with Alex Sinclair

One of my daughter's favorite songs is Abracadabra by Steve Miller Band.. Purely because it's catchy and she likes dancing and singing to "Abracadabra"... I did the same when I was little.. but now I'm actually listening to the verses like

"I feel the magic in your caress

I feel magic when I touch your dress

Silk and satin, leather and lace

Black p*nties with an angel's face"

As a parent I've gotten that "UUuummmmmm, OHHHH...ok, whoops.." moment. Grimace and all, maaaaaybe this isn't so appropriate lol

At least with 'older' stuff, you get a lot more innuendo and nuance to the lyrics. Not only does this hide the true intentions of a song from less mature minds but is, itself, an exercise is language skills. Before my time, If you really wanted to talk about something raunchy or 'blue' (cue Chuck Berry) you had to have some refined lyrical skills. I think a lot of that art has been lost given todays verbal freedoms.

It's similar to the kid's shows/movies putting in a little fun for the parents and adults that goes over kids' heads lol. Even with video games, I'm still trying to figure out if it's ok for my daughter to say "Hell Divers"... cause it's a title, but it's H E Double Hockey Sticks 🤔

lol to be fair, much will come down to simple, personal preferences. Though that still creates an area of debate as there are some parents perfectly ok with their children singing along to extremely crude or "adult themed" music. I had my youngest listening to very extreme metal at an early age and saw no issue but I would contend that I may have raised concern if she had wanted to sing along to W.A.P. 😱

Yes, I don't even know if I'll EVER be old enough to listen to that one! lol

This is so funny because I was in a debate with my husband yesterday over this. so Michael Jackson song and he was convinced that the bridge or the chorus was “mama say mama sa mamacasa” and I said no they’re not the lyrics and he couldn’t believe it I said it’s “imma say one more time I’m not goin stop” and he just couldn’t get on board with the fact that these were the lyrics

I saw something about this recently! I think it had to do with the whole "Mandela Effect" thing... BUT... And as a wife I don't say this lightly.. I do believe your husband is right-ish.. lol The lyrics are:

Ma-ma-se, ma-ma-sa, ma-ma-ko-ssa (hoo-hoo)

Ma-ma-se, ma-ma-sa, ma-ma-ko-ssa (hee-hee-hee)

Ma-ma-se, ma-ma-sa, ma-ma-ko-ssa (hee-hee-hee)

Ma-ma-se, ma-ma-sa, ma-ma-ko-ssa

Ma-ma-se, ma-ma-sa, ma-ma-ko-ssa (help me sing it babe)

Ma-ma-se, ma-ma-sa, ma-ma-ko-ssa (hee-hee-hee)

Jackson sampled it from Cameroonian musician Manu Dibango's 1972 afro-funk classic, “Soul Makossa." It's also sampled by Rihanna in "Don't Stop the Music". Dibango sued both and settled out of court with Jackson, I'm not sure about the outcome with Rihanna.

I STILL don't know what the heck the lyrics mean 🤣 I love the song though, it's fun to dance and sing too!

(I won't tell your husband if you don't!) lol.
