If you're anything like us, you've still got plenty of games from 2023 on your to-play list. And yet you've decided to try Nightingale - the new open-world survival crafting game from Inflexion. For this bounty, we simply want to know why. Was it faith in the studio, the Victorian 'gaslamp fantasy' setting, the ability to manage a community with friends, or something else entirely?

We're looking for at least 100 words of text or a minute of video for this bounty. Though feel free to say more if you have more to say!

This is entirely down to the Just About Nightingale community for me.

I love the idea of survival games and start several of them. Unforunately because of my commitment to EVE Online I very rarely invest more than 10 hours getting to know a game before I'm back in EVE 'full-time' and forget about the other. Nightingale looks excellent, the playstyle, design and general concept all excite me but I know in normal circumstances I would drop the game after the first few plays.

I am really hoping that changes with the Just About community. Joining the community here, to coincide with the launch of the game has got me really excited about the whole thing. The bounties help of course, but being able to experience the game alongside others going through the same things at similar times is what's really diriving me.

And I want to see JA flourish, so if my interation in other communities helps that in some small way, then I'll be doing it :D

Bring on that 10 hour mark and hopefully the thousand hours beyond!

Haven't heard about the game before it popped up as the new community here, so I decided to check it out. While I haven't played many survival games, I like the world it's set in and the design looks amazing as well (I have a certain preference for game design, and if I don't like the design, I won't play the game, no matter how good it is, it needs to look good as well)

I like the crafting, building and exploring part, so it's definitely a game which would be interesting to play, but the main reason why I'm giving it a go before other games from my list is the community here. I've been playing Aion since beta until it became F2P and been very active on the Hungarian community forum as well, and loved that experience of playing a game since release and building the "offline" community alongside it.

Really looking forward to jump into it on Saturday (didn't manage to make time sooner) and try completing the bounties on stream. We will see how good I am at survival games, hopefully will be able to make a few guides too.

This past year or so I've been wanting to push myself to try things I would normally shy away from, from deckbuilding with Inscryption to turn based with Sea of Stars last year and my first play of Dark Souls this year.

The one genre that I still have a chip on my shoulder with (because I'm convinced I'll be no good at them) is crafting/survival games. It's why I've not played things like Subnautica or The Forest etc. So When I saw this pop up in a conversation with friends and then for it to be given it's own space on JA - I took it as a sign that this is the year I should try and craft and survive - winging it as much as possible (can we tell I'm a brand new first time parent yet?).

The art style and the gaslamp fantasy element definitely helped to sell it too - it's not your usual survival setting and fantasy has always won me over over out and out sci-fi. That brings me to the beasts that we face - they look straight out of a FromSoft conceptual art book and whilst I may also be new to Dark Souls etc. the dark fantasy art of the monsters is something I've always been fascinated by.

So it's time for me to put on my big boy crafting pants and give this game and genre a fair crack!

Honestly, I completely missed 'Nightingale' at Gamescom 2023, which is surprising. Thankfully, the JA community brought it to my attention!

At first glance, 'Nightingale' offers a refreshing setting for the genre. If you're tired of the Viking magic and swords or find the cartoonish style of 'Palworld' not to your taste, its Victorian/Wild West 19th-century ambiance provides a unique and distinct flavor. It seems like fans of 'Dishonored,' 'Red Dead,' 'BioShock,' and 'Lies of P' might find it particularly appealing.

In a previous discussion, I highlighted key elements that I look for in such games: exploration and discovery, character and technological progression, and intelligent building and resource utilization. My interest in 'Nightingale' grows from exploring how well it integrates these elements into its gameplay.

I think it honestly looks gorgeous and I am really looking forward to the customisation and building in this game with the themes it has presented. I have the feeling it is going to produce some amazing content and creations which I am really looking forward to seeing in this Community on JustAbout.

I had not heard of the game before the community launched on JustAbout and that is the main reason I will be giving it a go.

I'm looking forward to playing the game with a JustAbout community behind it and take part in the discussions on here about it.

Being able to play the game a little differently than the norm by taking part in the bounties, almost like enhanced, creative achievements that provide a monetary reward for completing.

Art style

Nightingale looks a lot like your usual survival affair mixed with the fantasy of Fable, albeit a bit darker. The art style is right up my street. Generally, we approach these games with a mind that we'll spend hours in them; you really need to be happy with what you're looking at. That, mixed with the pedigree of former Bioware veterans, makes this an incredibly interesting one.
