When I was playing other mmos especially when raiding I had my own music playlist going.

In FFXIV even after years I listen to the game soundtrack and can't imagine playing without the BGM. The fights sre synced to the music, there are so many audio hints for mechanics coming up.

I just commented in a thread about Palworld that the lack of music in the game makes me feel uncomfortable. Music is key to most, if not all games. It sets the tone and supports what's happening in the game.

i have totally noticed the lack of music here also

Seems they were in a production rush

I don't think I could play a game that had no music, unless is was specifically designed to not have it. It's like the world would be missing its soul!

for me the GOAT, even though its not an original soundtrack has to be GTA Vice City, but but but for original the first GTA had an incredible theme tune lol

Ok enough GTA, i really thought the soundrack in Goldeneye 007 on the N64 was incredible! And still stands upo to this day as ive been playing it on my Xbox !

I made a playlist on YouTube called 80s Jams, and while not all of the music from Vice City is 80s, it does make up a large portion of the playlist.

Speaking of GTA, I basically never really listened to any hip hop until I played San Andreas and now it's one of my favourite genres. I love all the country music in that game, too.

Huge shoutout to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 for being absolute classics.

The original SSX had a similar upbeat vibe which I just can't get enough of. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icq29OSw6cY&list=PLD2DTeMw7AurXK7nmeeTQU8Fjr3MZROsF

For something inspired by games but not from one, I highly recommend Trevor Something's album Trevor Something Does Not Exist.

It's an awesome mix of originals and covers. The last track is based on an incredible classic sci-fi movie and needs to be listened to with good headphones 🤘💣

Don't forget the soundtrack of THPS4, that was 🤌 I honestly think that 50% of music taste has come from THPS games and GTA games.

The game itself is riddled with problems, but I absolutely adore the music for Sonic Unleashed. The Sonic series in general has a high bar for music but I think Unleashed has the best of the lot.

I particularly love this music for one of the hub worlds. Imagine listening to this while you're walking around as a giant furry werehog talking to some of the ugliest looking NPCs you've ever seen in your life

I'd also be remiss if I didn't give a shoutout to the Hotline Miami games. Roller Mobster by Carpenter Brut from Hotline Miami 2 is absolutely amazing

The music sets the tone and the environment just as the visual do, even if in different ways. I think it does influence a game's perception.

Worthy soundtracks in my opinion are: Guild Wars 2 EvE Online (not for nothing when I wrote EvE related fiction, I seek it out each and every time) Mass Effect (love theme anyone? The Citadel anyone? The clubs' songs anyone?) Star Wars: The Old Republic (when writing Star Wars, this is one of the go to soundtracks) Horizon Zero Dawn Control (in particular Take Control by Old Gods of Asgard and Red Glow Tunnel Rush)

Eve Online tracks are my favorite, this year I managed to meet the composer in person and touch the synthesizer where they all have been created.
