Okay, that's a fair point :D

I've never played any of the FF franchise but I have an Xbox and Game Pass so now I have no excuse. And, I have to admit Lanah Tyra, you are so passionate about this game that I am genuinely hyped to play it now

It's definitely worth a try, the community is very friendly and there's plenty of content to do. The story of the first 50 lvls can seem a bit slow, but that's the base game from 10 years ago, with lots of setting up to do for the main story and lots of "this call could have been an email" run here and run back type of quests. The later expansions go a lot faster as the story only has to cover 10 lvls and not 50.

I have characters on EU and NA data center too, so if you need help with anything, just give me a shout :)

is it only availalbe during that time?

Lanah Tyra's avatar

yes it is only that time, to celebrate the launch of the Xbox version.

cool! Does that mean if you claim it during that time you get access going forward or is it only playable during then?

I never had an Xbox so no idea how the Game Pass works on it. Since it's an online game, you do need Game Pass to play it, so I assume you can claim it for free during that period, and then play it as long as you have game pass.

TLDR if you want the very very long free trial, do not claim it. then play the free trial a bit and if you are still playing by april 18th then claim the free starter pack.

It's a confusing offering, further confused by the xbox subs and I think people will regret claiming it. Once you claim the free starter pack, I understand that sets the countdown to 30 days of free gametime and after that you will have to pay the monthly FFXIV subscription.

If you do not claim the starter pack, instead you will be on the unlimited fee trial that costs nothing (other than xbox live gold as it's multiplayer) and lets you play all the way to the end of stormblood and level 70. I played over 2 weeks of game time 350 hours, and still hadn't reached the end of the free trial. However I did pay up quite early in the base game as I wanted the locked out features like joining a guild and the currency limit.

So lots of choices, different subscriptions, free trial or 30 day game time, all adds up to a confusing offering, as seen in this thread, lol.

Thank you, that breaks it down nicely. Even the original article from Square Enix wasn't quite clear so as a non-xbox player I could only guess how it will work.

I played it a stupid amount and was enjoying it. But then I got about halfway through stormblood and couldn't face it anymore and dropped it. That expansion was really boring for me and those underwater areas.. urgh.

I think Stormblood is the weakest expansion. There are some great characters in it, but the whole thing is just dragging. If you can force yourself through it though, Shadowbringers is 10/10.

My 11yr old has spent all day, getting excited about this.
