What I would like to know is what is happening to the Gamer Network sites such as Eurogamer etc... Are Reedpop any closer to finding a buyer?

Reedpop are either asking for a LOT of money... Or potential buyers are looking at the prospects of the entire media industry, and are having serious doubts about its future viability.

Buyouts take time, just because there hasn't been any major news doesn't mean that nothing is going ahead. There was an article recently about ReedPop ID (the universal sign in thing) becoming Gamer Network ID, which would imply things are moving along.

I'm not surprised. I actually predicted this happening a few years back. EGX as a gaming event could no longer continue as it was. It wanted to continue as it was before COVID but AAA didn't and without AAA it has struggled.

I think you are right. Eventually it will disappear completely and just be a small area for gaming at MCM.

Shame really...

I wonder, as they are selling Eurogamer, and the show is called EGX, does that mean the buyer of Eurogamer can run a "Eurogamer Expo", they are selling the Eurogamer brand and keeping EGX. That would be an interesting turn of events!

Technically EGX is the evolution of Eurogamer Expo and is just an abbreviation but it isn't unheard of. I've worked for corporates that have split and parts sold off, it'll depend on the contracts.

I didn't know the sites where for sale, I only really read Game Industry Biz. I find Eurogamer a bit biased.

You could end up with a Eurogamer Expo again but it would suffer from the EGX history and would need to start again and compete with WASD...

Edit: ...but then EGX could be complete absorbed into MCM as a "gaming" area freeing up the brand and it could be sold. Time will tell - as Thomas noted, these things take time.

Let's be honest, EGX has gone down the hill for the last 4-5 years anyway. This at least gives them a guaranteed base of people to show up, but I will be there anyway at MCM.

I'll be there also. May have more to do than just walking in circles...

Well I hear your at WASD as well, so maybe a meet up is in order, you got Discord xD

Went back through my old stuff and I went every year for all days, from 2011 - 2018. 2018 was decent, but the merch, hardware vendor stands and large empty spaces were starting to take over by that point. Didn't go in 2019 and then obviously after that is a different story.

So your 5 years of decline lines up with me as well. I don't think this was any fault of the show/organisers, just the industry had started to change even before covid on the support they gave to these sort of events.

We're still going, I find it difficult to give up sometime I have loved so much. Will be interesting to see how this changes the event.

Not sure how the industry will take it - positively or negatively. Maybe something to ask as we walk the show floor at WASS this week...

Not unexpected, but certainly the end of an era. :'(

Sure, I'm biased, but EGX were the best gaming events the UK has ever seen. The latter Earls Court years (2013/14) and once re-settled at NEC (2016/2017) were brilliant. AMA!

the last couple of years at Earls Court were absolutely epic! It was never the same once it moved to the NEC, especially without the EGX Jesus security character that he totally embraced and went with! (I bet they loved that call of duty ghosts giveaway year...).

Although for me that's more because it's a short drive to the NEC and nothing special, whereas at Earls court, it was a whole midweek away in London.

EGX Jesus security character

I remember him - he kept everyone energised while waiting to get out of the rain and into the event!

I totally agree. I was at the last few Earls Court and all following, where my expo journy started!!
