I'm painfully out of the loop when it comes to reading for pleasure, so where do you go for your book recommendations?

I'm subscribed to the news letter of "My Mom" lol. She's an avid reader and looks at all kinds of articles. When she sees a horror one come onto the scene, she'll send it my way.
Great source of recommendations, and she knows your taste!
This is a bit of a cop out, but my next door neighbour did a degree in English literature and happens to also like sci-fi and apocalyptic type stories so I have been reading her bookshelf recently. :)
She recommended the Wool series and "ready player one" for example.
Not a cop out at all! There's something very personal about a book collection, so you know any recommendation is meaningful.
waterstones book store. I actuallly find the staff to be very knowledgable when I ask about new sci-fi or fantasy series to read
That's a fair point! They are the professionals after all 😊I don't even know where to start, so it's nice to know they're able to help us explore the options.
Yeh I find them to be super helpful tbh. They got me into a fair few new sci-fi books
A while ago, I created a list for myself with over a thousand books, and if I ever run out, I always have a fallback plan - there are over 850 Warhammer books that can keep me busy while I decide what to read next.
Just About Books & Comics
I (shamefully) use Instagram for a lot of recommendations, but I have been burned too many times and then do thorough Goodreads research of anything that takes my fancy!
There's no shame in taking recommendations from social platforms! 😉
I get most of my recommendations via social media these days. I like to join a lot of reading/book groups on Facebook, and I try to find recommendation content on TikTok. Also, if I'm using Kindle, I get a lot of suggestions based off of my reading choices. Goodreads is a help too, it's helpful to see what friends with similar interests are reading. I STILL enjoy perusing in the stores and checking out whatever catches my eye!
I think HERE would be a great place for recommendations as well!
That's quite a comprehensive source of recommendations! Maybe we need some sort of book club, though it'd have to be widely available and low cost titles so more people can get involved 🤔
A book club of sorts would be cool! There's definitely some ways to acquire books economically, the libby app for example!
Definitely an idea to think about for the future!
when people say 'don't judge a book by its cover' i giggle cos I DO
the main way i find books is to go into waterstones and note down all the books that seem interesting to me - usually the first thing that does catch my eye is the cover hehe
It's difficult not to be drawn by something that catxhes our eye! I think we can say "Don't dismiss a book because of it's cover"? lol
Some of the best conversations on the internet are happening here - and our users are getting rewarded for having them. Don't miss out!
