I remember reading a story about the development of Wolfenstein 3D and it was described as a "seminal" game. I was too young to appreciate the tenor and gravitas of the word and just thought "teehee SEMINal."
I looked it up in the dictionary (because that's the era we're talking about, here) and even after knowing what it meant, I still couldn't bring myself to use it in conversation because I thought people would have the same sophomoric reaction.
Did you learn any words too young to use/appreciate fully?
