I wish I had a photo of my original setup but I don't think I do! - Like most gamers we tend to start out of our bedrooms and that was no different for me. In one of the smallest rooms you can imagine, a bed, combined with a big enough desk to include two monitors, a Alienware keyboard, and a Razer Deathadder mouse. I remember I saved up enough to get my first ever custom PC. So much, that it made me completely bankrupt. Maybe not the best idea. The first ever microphone I bought was a USB Samson CO1U Condenser microphone with a the Samson Shock Mount and a Rode PS01 arm. I used two light arms that were battery powered, looking back probably not the best equipment. For my mixing I used a KORG USB deck (I forget the model), which was super handy and actually pretty good! I think I eventually switched to a Shhure SM7B and connected it via a Scarlet Focusrite. Go back years and years before that, I was gaming off a old Dell Laptop with the tinest screen, along with the first pair of headphones I purchased, the Turtle Beach Stealth 450. It's actually funny that we can still remember all of the old equipment we used to buy. It was that laptop and that headset where I first starting making content on Fraps that my brother gave me haha. But now, my setup is completely different, much improved, and in it's own space! (Can send pictures).

Oh the good old days of Fraps

The very first video I made was done with:

  • A Logitech Brio 4K webcam

  • A Zoom H6 with binaural mic attachment

  • A MSI Stealth 15 laptop

  • Two Logitech monitor mounted key lights

  • A reversible and foldable blue/green screen

  • OBS

  • A copy of Movavi Editing Suite 2022

  • A script on Prey (2022)

  • A love of horror and a pressing need to share it

Very shortly after when I started doing games too, I added in an Elgato 4K60S+

This is my first MacGyver-style studio

You can see a 24-inch, 3000lm ceiling panel light, cleverly mounted on a clothes rack, and a portable photo light deflector.

To combat the room's terrible reverb, I created DIY sound absorption panels. I repurposed IKEA IVAR side panels, onto which I stapled six layers of terry towels for effective sound dampening. My setup included two cameras: an Avermedia webcam for general footage and a GoPro 7 for 4K cropping.

It was a period filled with wild experiments and budget-friendly solutions, but it all came together nicely in the end as audience didn't saw all that mess =)

I don’t have a photo but when I first started content creation, I started off with a gaming laptop and separate monitor, and had a Logitech headset that I would use for audio. I had a ring light that I got cheap from Amazon, I also had a VR Headset as I was creating VR content at the time and that was my set up for about a month. I was saving up to buy a gaming PC and this was during COVID lockdowns in 2021 so I was receiving some money from the Government. But it took me a while to build the set up that I have now, and I wanted to gradually build on my equipment rather than buying it in one hit.My current set up now is a little bit more complex and has grown, and I’m pretty content with the equipment I have now. I learnt that to create content you don’t need the latest and greatest, it’s how you create the content and what you provide and honestly I feel like working with what little you have, teaches you to think outside the box and get creative.

Gosh this was back in the day, I made a video for my IT GCSE and it was about Minecraft, I recorded it on my Macbook, not a pro, not an air, just a Macbook, it had 2gb ram and a terrible mic, I edited it in iMovie and I got a double distinction. Its what then inspired me to do more YouTube content and set up a server for my pals!

Ha I love that - back when I used to make videos I had a very similar origin story, but I do recall any films had to be shown in front of the whole class, and I wouldn't have had the courage to present a Minecraft video! So ended up making something in real life, then focusing on Minecraft vids on the side for YouTube. Fond memories of playing on a rubbish laptop with all the settings cranked down, playing like it's Silent Hill with thick fog two feet in front of you.

So I'm 38 and my creation journey started around 18 so, no photos I'm afraid.

My first setup was a bubble set speaker system, they literally looked like bubbles, my monitor was an 18-inch flat screen, but like a bad one. My first set of videos was World of Warcraft and I had no microphone and I had to use fraps, my editing skills were awful. My desk was one of those that had adraw underneath for the keyboard/mouse.

From there I suppose, I went into proper editing around age 20 for my job, we started using better systems etc.

Not really much to add lol.

Even though I started my current content creation journey only a couple of years ago, my roots go back to about 18 years ago when I was still at uni and recorded Lineage 2 footage for our community forum. I had a ThinkPad X60 and used Fraps and Vegas Pro which was licensed by my uni.

Don't remember exactly what was my first setup here in the UK when I got back into content creation. I built the PC from used parts I bought or got gifted by friends, the most expensive part was an Nvidia GPU which cost about £50 in CEX (our local chain for second hand games and tech). Most of that had been upgraded now, the only pieces I still have from it is my Logitech C270 webcam (I used to use the mic from that for streaming and discord calls....)

Fraps and Sony Vegas used to be the combo. No idea how or why Premiere Pro took over as the go-to editing software, but I do remember being so familiar with Sony Vegas then trying to switch and being completely lost.

It was so good, simple and easy. Everything just worked. I swapped to Premier when my uni swapped our license and it was so confusing. Only stuck with it because that's what everyone seemed to be using professionally.

Had enough of paying to Adobe now so swapped to Davinci Resolve. Takes some time getting used to it but found a lot of features I liked in Vegas so I think I'll be fine once I found out where everything is.

Oh this one for me is VINTAGE, if anyone remembers the days of Wifi when it first came out for gaming (Yes I am old). The first console I had in 2007 that could use wifi was the Nintendo DS. I lived in a world before Wifi, not many people can say that. The ability to trade and battle people in Pokemon diamond across the world for me was MINDBLOWING. I used to wake up at 3am everynight and constantly check if my GTS trades had gone through

I really got into the competitive battling scene and I don't even think my phone camera was more than 8mp and could even record the DS Screen. So I recorded the battle's in pokemon diamond I believe using the vs seeker or battle tower, there was 100% something that let you record and plan battles back, I put my laptop forward camera on and on the other side was a pile of books on the floor/keyboard which just about got the angle of the DS in the video's, and I pressed play on the battle recording and record on my laptop! Probably used unregistered hypercam 2 in there as well at some point

PokemonBattler123 was my youtube channel, I'm proud of the editing I did back then, those were the days

Does anyone remember capture cards of old? I remember using a Dazzle DVC100 to record Call of Duty gameplay from my Xbox 360, before I eventually upgraded to a Hauppauge HD PVR. Back in the days before consoles had built-in capture systems...

Damn this is a throwback to when I started YouTube, but luckily enough I actually Vlogged it (or V-Log) as i randomly call it for some reason! lol so cringe looking back at these I would edit and film so differently, but hey thats a good thing I guess as you grow and develop your skills over time!

Technically I’ve been on YouTube since 2011, lying dormant. I started my journey last year but after releasing a few videos I fell off the wagon. This month I made a commitment to myself that I’m going to peruse my dream and be more serious in creating content. I still ‘new’ as a content creator, I know the journey ahead is a long and challenging one but I’m ready! Bring it! This is my setup

Hi Konquest, thanks for letting me know. I'll see if the tech team are aware, and if they can see what's going on.

Would you mind sharing a quick bit of info via the report a bug form? It goes directly to our tech team and will help when they look into it.

The good news is clicking the link shows your account, so it will still count as an original submission 😊

Thank you Boomer I will put in a report now. Appreciate the assist brother!😃
