When putting together my Dragons Dogma 2 combat montage short and finding what music to use for it, I came across this page:
I’ve noticed what music you use for shorts can have a big impact on the number of views. As a regular viewer of the shorts feed, if you watch a few that use a particular music track, you start to get more and more videos using the same linked soundtrack. For your own content this means if you use the trending sounds for your shorts, you are much more likely to have it pushed into peoples feeds than if you only use your own sound or use an unpopular one.
Using the above page you can filter by the trending sounds of day/week/month, most popular, biggest movers etc. You can also change to particular countries rather than global (in the top right of the page).
The caveat is that the music is usually being used for a specific viral trend/certain type of content, so if you use music for content that has no relation to the trend whatsoever you do run the risk of getting dislikes. You can check this by clicking through the trending sounds on this page. Then you can drill down further to the shorts that are using that music and see the sort of content people are watching (and the most popular ones).
You can then make your own spin on the trend related to your channels theme/content and pick up a decent amount of views just from having used a trending sound.
Finally, this maybe obvious to everyone (as may be everything above!) but you can only use these copyright sounds on shorts and the only way to do it is by doing an upload of your short via the mobile app and then choosing a soundtrack. You can then balance the volume of your own sound (if any) v the linked track.
