I was trying to stick to a streaming schedule, but I'm not sure it's right for me. When I started streaming it was for weekly FFXIV 48 man raids, with our Discord bot announcing it. Whoever didn't make it onto the raid was usually watching the streams to prepare for their turn next time. I often had 5-10 viewers and people engaging in chat. I never had a schedule published, never announced the stream on Xitter or promoted in any other way, all my viewers were from the Discord.
I'm not running these raids anymore so I tried to stream various things on a schedule, but this seems to be very difficult. Mostly because my casual raid group often has to cancel as someone is not feeling well or has other commitments. I can't really come up with something else to stream on the spot, and even if I did, those who wanted to watch an FFXIV raid might not be interested in other content even if it's FFXIV. Not sure if because of the cancelled streams or because people are not that interested in what I'm streaming, most often I only have a couple of viewers who might as well be bots because no interaction in chat. And my Tuesday raid group got cancelled as someone left and we were going to stop at Dawntrail release anyway...
I assume it's because I'm not doing the big raids anymore so the viewerbase I had at the beginning is gone and I need to build it up again. So knowing this, should I still try and push for a schedule or would it be worth spending most of my time creating Youtube videos, gain more followers there with occasional streaming which would not necessarily be on a schedule but announced on Xitter or here that hey I'm live now streaming this thing.
I would still stream at least once a week something where I don't depend on others showing up, on a day where 95% of the time I can commit to it for sure, and then use the rest of my time creating more videos because I do have a lot of ideas for guides ahead of FFXIV Dawntrail release, but not the time to make them. So probably instead of streaming to one person it would be better to get some of these videos out, lure in more subscribers and then pick up streaming again when I see that there are more people watching my occasional streams.
Do you guys stream on schedule or ad-hoc? How does that change how many people show up for your streams?
