There is plenty of gorgeous EVE Online artwork out there, depicting everything from the vast expanses of space to the corridor-level details of New Eden’s many ships and space stations. The EVE community’s creativity doesn’t stop there, and for our first analogue media contest, we asked our members to step away from the keyboard and get crafty.
We were looking for all manner of non-digital art, with examples such as a LEGO Raptor, a papier-mâché Citadel, or an oil painting of a Jump Gate. And you sure did deliver. Here are the winners, and some honorable mentions, of our first non-digital EVE artwork competition, all submitted by members of Just About EVE Online.
Drekavac dream
In first place, we have Rixx Javix. Their submission comes with the caveat of having a couple of digital touch-ups just to clean up some edges and colour work, but this is a beautifully painted piece of a Drekavac ship against a pale yellow background, with some red lights helping it to stand out.
Wooden ships
FUN INC brings home second place, as he channeled his love for woodworking to create two wooden ships: a Nyx and a Wyvern.
One of my other pastimes outside of EVE is messing about in the garage woodworking. I am not the greatest - I am not the worst - I just like dabbling about in the garage and find it all quite therapeutic - it’s one of my happy places, so I was super chuffed when this bounty aligned with something else that I was planning for Fanfest.
He's detailed the full process of making both in the bounty thread, but you can check out the finished products below!
I'll have the EVE cake, please
In third place is Kane Carnifex, who may have created the tastiest EVE Online treat we've ever seen. I don't think it'd do too well in a dogfight, nor can it store many resources, but it's definitely the only entry we'd like to eat. Bonus points for getting the #JustAbout branding in there! He's even provided the cliff notes on how to make it yourself:
If you could taste spaceships this would be a lemon one. 6 eggs, 350g butter, 350g flour, 350g sugar, and the usual extras like baking powder, vanilla extract, etc.
Finally, for the honourable mentions, we have a tongue-in-cheek entry from MacGybo, claiming to have made four covert ops ships from LEGO. Only, there's nothing there in the picture - we'll let you put two and two together!
Schadsquatch also came armed with a few oil paintings, for which the first, featuring an Astero, was created during a charity stream for Syrian refugees - a huge round of applause for those efforts. He also had two paintings of a Stratios - one from himself and another from a friend - which are undoubtedly far better than I could do, but just missed out on the prize spots thanks to the uniqueness and creativity shown by the winners.
There was also Ben Rush with a gloriously glittery Noctis, with plenty of red and pink sprinkled all over the exterior of the ship. Fancy!
