The late, great Bill Paxton is the only actor to have been killed by a Terminator (Terminator, 1984), a Xenomorph (Aliens, 1986), and a Yautja (Predator 2, 1990).

P.S. Bill Paxton has a special place in my heart because my mom's favorite movie is Twister.

Same! I can't believe they are putting out a new one. Surely after the success of Dorothy, there are no more battles to be won in that universe lol.

Alien (1979) is quite literally just Jaws (1975) in space, which is exactly how it was pitched to executives.

This is a common practice in filmmaking, as production houses are more likely to invest in projects that can piggyback off previously established success.

I was a huge fan of the Matrix films, and the "green code" always fascinated me, so I always wondered what it was, but what I found out, was interesting, the "code" was actually symbols a production designer scanned from his wife's sushi cookbooks and then manipulated them to look like "computer code". He was actually given a small pay rise for his actions as the directors had originally wanted to use normal computer coding, cool huh?

Lord of the Rings the Two Towers.

Did you know that Viggo Mortensen broke his toes in the scene where Aragorn kicks a helmet across the ground!?

I know you did, everyone does but I got to make it my submission 😆

What about when he deflected the 'non' prop knife? Or that he was scared of heights so instead of taking the production helicopter like the rest of the cast, he instead woke up early and hiked to set? Or (and more disgustingly) didn't shower for weeks or months on end to keep to Ranger's outdoorsman lifestyle of method acting (I do bring this up whenever female fans start fawning for him).

Paul's avatar

I knew about the hiking but not the method acting, nice 👍

I was over here shaking with the self-restraint to not post it. Knew I could count on the JA community to bring it!

I had to lol I have no restraint

Michael Myers’ mask in Halloween is William Shatner’s face - poor old Will!

Horror and Cats's avatar

Specifically, it was a mask used for practical FX on the set of The Devil's Rain. Started in horror, ended in horror.

D

Hah, now I never knew that. Amazing! Thanks for sharing.

I love Will Shatner, he's definitely funnier in his old age, but I can imagine young Will was horrified!

Horror and Cats's avatar

Haha The Devil's Rain is a terrible, old movie which didn't go very far, so it's understandable when people haven't heard of it.

I love watching The Unexplained on Netflix hosted by Shatner. As far as I know it's the most recent thing he does and it so fun to watch him be serious about a wide range of different conspiracy/fringe science topics.

The dialog in The Blair Witch Project is mostly improvised

Instead of a proper script, the actors in the classic found-footage style horror movie The Blair Witch Project (1999) only received notes with the general narrative of the bits filmed on specific days.

They were asked to ad-lib as much as possible, so almost all of the dialog in the movie is improvised. This really makes it seem like they're just a couple of friends doing a weird project together. But you must not forget, they're still actors. They didn't know each other that well and still managed to make it look like they grew up together.

Blair Witch remains one of the most iconic creepy movies ever. 😱

Alex Sinclair's avatar

I didn't know this. I might have to rewatch it sometime. You've also just inspired a new bounty idea: the greatest improvised moments in film and TV history.

There's a lot of useless horror movie trivia in my head, haha. Looking forward to that bounty!

I've got three from my favourite movie of all time Back To The Future

  1. As of writing the year is 2024, therefore all Back to The Future Films are actually set in the past including the second film where they travel to the 'future' to the year 2015. Sadly, we never achieved those self-fitting clothes, flying cars, or even Jaws 19

  1. At the Enchantment Under the Sea dance, Marty has to fill in for Marvin Berry on Guitar. But there is something guitar historians will note about the axe Marty plays. It is a Gibson ES-345 first manufactured in 1958. But BTTF fans know that Marty travels back to Hill Valley 1955. Maybe Marvin used his music connections from his cousin Chuck to get a prototype..

  1. In 2015 at New York City Comic Con, to celebrate the time Marty travels to the 'Future' Pepsi released a limited edition container to mirror it's on-screen product Pepsi Perfect. The first 200 fans that cosplayed Marty McFly that attended the booth were given a replica of the drink.

I'm very glad I have these in the bank for my next Back to the Future viewing

Thought this one was a bit fishy (excuse the pun) at first when I heard it first but it's confirmed to be true.

The Matrix code is just made from characters from Japanese Sushi recipes that were scanned and randomly placed into vertical lines.

There is a Hungarian line in Blade Runner. It wasn't originally in the script, Edward James Olmos came up with it as he has Hungarian heritage and speaks a few words. Many Hungarians don't know this as the movie was dubbed in cinemas and on telly, so image my shock when I first watched the movie with original sound :D

Additional fun fact, I spoke to him on London Comic Con (I think it was 2014 or 2015?) and we had a nice chat about this scene. And his helper at the signing session was a Hungarian lady and she was surprised because she didn't know this either.

For those who don't know, the line is "Lófaszt. Nehogy már. Te vagy a Blade Runner" which translates to "Horsedick (a word we use instead of bullshit). No way. You are the Blade Runner."

The main guy from samurai cop thought filming had finished and shaved his head. And when called back to film had to wear a wig. It's great when it gets pulled slightly off his head in the film.

In call me by your name there is a scene where Elio is sitting waiting for the love interest Oliver in the dark and a big blue light sweeps across the screen. This was because it was the movie was filmed on film and the roll got damaged or something but the director thought it added to the ambience of the scene, so left it in there with no reshoot needing to be done ^-^

Also the infamous 'peach' scene had a lot of takes, with both actors taking the scene in a varied direction every time!

Jurassic Park" is renowned for its groundbreaking use of animatronics, but it's interesting how real-life issues added to the film's authenticity. Especially in the scene where the T-Rex terrorizes the kids in the car – the actors' screams were real, triggered by an unplanned breakage of glass by the animatronic T-Rex.

This unforeseen event not only startled the young actors but also brought an unexpected level of realism to the scene, making it one of the most memorable in the movie.

Saw this on Buzzfeed unsolved a while back and it's definitely ominous but interesting, that one of the extras in Jaws may have been a Jane-doe in a local unidentified persons case, as they had a real resemblance. A theory proposed by Stephen King's son I believe. Unsure if they ever proved this to be true, but nonetheless interesting.

Horror and Cats's avatar

It’s still not verified as for having been in Jaws, but she was finally identified in late 2022 and less than a year later, it was determined her husband was the killer. 48 years and three times exhumed to finally solve it 😬

What I love most about this is I still have one of those robots that sits on my desk.

In Little Shop of Horrors the actors had to act in slow motion when interacting with the giant Audrey II puppet because it was so hard to puppet.
