it was like 'Woah, there are so many people who share the same kinks as I do!"

I never had a group I felt comfortale with in school, even my "friends" bullied me to some digree. The first time I actually felt like I had found real friends and a good community was in the Army Cadets at 13.

Nothing at that age creates a bond stronger then pulling a friend out of litteral mud, holding their hand through a loaded march they didnt think they would finish or growing your skills together to where you all start instructing the younger cadets as a team.

Other then being a load of fun, and putting me on course for my career in the Army, I found a group of kids my age that liked me, cared about me and became like brothers and sisters. We supported eachother through all the good and the bad, bullying, break ups, parent devorce, drug/alcohol misuse ect. All the things alot of kids go through alone we were there for eachother at a drop of a hat.

I was the same as you, and I didn't really find my folk until late on. Those sound like special bonds though. Shared experiences always bring us closer, and I think the more intense those experiences are, the stronger those bonds tend to be. Thanks for sharing.

The EVE Reddit said this must be SCAM.

<3 for sure!

Some things are just too good to be true, eh? I'm glad that we've proven them wrong :D

Some of my EVE Friends still think that's scam and resisting to go here

It looks like a matter of 'when' not 'if'! Could it be the first-ever JA tattoo? :P

I think I have always been a "what is a community" - I have always found it difficult to be part of any community. My main issue has always been my "blunt" nature and the mods simply not caring that people are "different" and often, allowances need to be made in certain frames/instances.

Just About has become my home. if they stopped bounties tomorrow due to finances I would still be here, I feel safe here, I feel I can be myself, and I have found people who are like me, and think the same kind of way.

For me, a community is a place where you can feel like it matters, where it is and what it is.

I think it was probably when I found my favorite bar back in California during my karaoke days. Everyone was always into everyone else’s song, even if they didn’t exactly slay it. It was chill and when new people with more spicy ideas of what bar life should be showed up (obnoxious, fighty, etc.) they were quickly dealt with.

That was my go-to karaoke bar for years and I went a few times a week. Picture on the wall, everyone knew each other's birthday and would buy them drinks and give them their spots in the karaoke list. Probably the first time I had a group of relative strangers in a community.

Love that.

'If you get fighty, we will collectively sing you out of this bar'

Also, how nice to get your picture on the wall. Karaoke song of choice?

The Richard Cheese cover of Down With the Sickness was usually my closer haha.

I had a bunch I do though. Still have my USB stick with all my custom/purchased karaoke tracks.

Back in the mid-eighties I got involved in self-publishing my own comic books, contributing to the growing fan community, writing articles for popular fanzines, and other activities. I was determined to become a part of the comics industry back then. My publishing got me involved in a specific APA (Amateur Press Association) group of like-minded creators. For those that do not know what an APA is - members send a Central Mailer Admin a certain number of copies of their own contributions and those are all compiled into a larger book which is then mailed back to all members - usually quarterly or bi-monthly. All of which sounds weird now with the internet and all the tools available to us today, but back then it was another way to build a community of like-minded people.
