Telegram’s CEO was recently arrested for allegedly allowing “criminal activity to go undeterred” on his app. Since then there’s been a quiet update to its Ts and Cs, removing a promise that private messages are inviolable.
Privacy online has always been a sticky topic. Moderators and platform owners have to balance members’ desire to message one another confidentially with the need to access private chats/spaces for their own safety (not to mention legal compliance), and then there are middle-ground positions, e.g. giving moderators incident-based access after a report is made.
How important is your privacy to you when you go online? Do you use certain platforms because of their position on this, or because of the privacy features they offer? Which such features are most important to you and how have they improved your experience? Let us know in the comments!
