I searched and found about a juicer press that went defunct 6 years ago, the press was made by a company called Juicero. it was a vegetable and fruit press that received a pack of pre-chopped fruits and vegetables from the company. the press has an internet connection that can be used to check if the pack was fresh or not.

it seemed that the people found out that the fruits and veggies given by the company could be squeezed by hand as easily as by the juicer that it was identical in quality.

Any "Smart" peripheral like Smart Juicer, Smart TV, ect
its just bit too much and i think its so dangerous if it can be hacked, i dont trust any things that can connect to internet besides my PC, Phone, Watch.
also i come from a Country who just got hacked on their IT System, so yeah.

So I like hair and beauty as much as the next person, but this thing that I’m gonna mention it was just I couldn’t believe it. I thought wow we are going way too far and it’s the smart hairbrush.

If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a hairbrush that’s developed by L’Oréal in partnership with a company that’s known for like its health devices. The hairbrush comes equipped with a microscope accelerometer and conductivity sensors and it connects to a mobile app through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to give us the analytics about the health and brushing habits.

Why it’s over the top:

  1. The microphone so the hairbrush uses the microphone to listen to the sound of your hairbrush and it’s supposed to identify issues like dryness or split ends, which is crazy.

  2. The sensors of the gyroscope from the accelerometers to track the brush in patterns and strokes. It’s just a bit excessive. There’s no need for this many types of senses to go into something as simple as brushing your hair.

  3. The data side of all the hairbrush sinks and gives detailed feedback and suggestions based on all the data collect and the user will receive reports on the brushing pressure speed and number of strokes and hair quality scores so all that information it’s just overkill for like a really routine task

  4. The hair coach comes with like a pretty hefty prize tag and it’s a proper expensive gadget where it’s not really justifiable so it’s around £160-£200 when it first got released, which is pretty crazy.

  5. And then the additional steps of like sinking the hairbrush to an app and analysing the data can feel really task like. So everyone usually just brushes their hair really quickly in the morning and evening and adding extra tech to this routine. It really complicates it rather than simplifying it.

Even though this time is right innovation and every day items can bring genuine improvements with this hair coach smart hair brushes a classic case of technology going way too far. The added features don’t do anything to enhance the core function of the product and it’s more of a gimme rather than a useful tool.

Washing machine with wi-fi / bluetooth or whatever...

First it sounded like a cool idea, you can download different programs to it and select the program you want from the app. If it worked... but for a life of me I couldn't connect to it, standing next to the machine with phone in hand wi-fi on, bluetooth on, nothing. And I work at IT support so I like to think that I know what I'm doing... Why do you need a smartphone and an app to put a program on a washing machine for jeans or black clothes like they used to? You have that dial on it... you can put as many programs on it as you want pretty much...

It's designed more for smart homes and works well with other IoTs. For example, you load it and launch it remotely/automatically on certain conditions, like 'your phone left home wifi = you are not home = you can make noise'

Or when the stock price of electricity reaches a certain level.

BUT yours with Bluetooth and proprietary app sounds like tech garbage =)))

Yeah the app is really not good looking, I gave up on making it work. And I'm not Tony Stark to need that level of smart home, don't mind setting a timer on when to start the washing so it's done by the time I get home (it's not good to leave the clothes in there anyway all day....) I just want to use a program by the turn of a dial and not having to mess around with an app, but apparently it's too much to ask for. Or I'm getting old and I'll turn into the grumpy old "back in my days" lady.... :D

When I got my Stream Deck plus with the dials on it my partner was shocked that really with all this tech I'm going back to old fashioned dials. I was almost yelling "you have no idea how hard it is to control sound on a digital slider with your mouse!!!!!" :D

For my submission, this actually came to my attention around two weeks ago when my wife was shopping for a new pair of kitchen scissors, because she is left handed she has to actually go looking for the right pair and of course it has to match her pink utensil collection and if they don;t have that it has to be rosemary gold instead, the list goes on.

So she was shopping around and she started laughing, I said what is so funny so she chucked me her phone and said look how pointless that is.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you, scissors with a laser on. this has to be the most pointless and over the top use of laser tech I have ever seen, what's funnier is there is a whole range of them on Amazon.

Everyone knows lighting ... you have wiring, goes to a switch, flick the switch and the power goes past to the light bulb, and you get light.

We have a setup at one of our buildings at work. The lights are LED strips, not bad so far. But each set is individually configured on some on-board controller. Each light is connected not by normal power wiring, but CAT6 dataline. And the switches aren't normal, they are these complicated push button arrangements to select banks of lights and dim/bright controls. And they have to receive regular firmware updates or they won't work properly.

And then the company that sold us this mess ... went out of business. So now they don't work properly. At least a dozen of the arrays are broken. If you make them too dim or too bright, they start blinking like a disco. So we have to unplug them and can't just be replaced with a simple bulb.

Waaaaaaaaaay too much crap involved when all we need is to just flick a simple switch and get the lights to turn on without trying to give people a seizure.

I think AI can be used responsibly for sure but it’s becoming so overused now, especially in creative spaces, nullifying the need for imagination. Maybe taking a lesson from the Terminator series wouldn’t be the worst idea

Following on from the successful Xbox 360, Microsoft announced the Xbox ONE in 2013 to a lot of backlash: always online requirement, all consoles bundled with the kinect, and horrible name. ONE? Isn't that a backwards step from 360?

For a games console it also lacked a lot of games and was generally overshadowed by the PS4. Microsoft tried to push a lot of bells and whistles with this console including social media integration, multimedia features, and streaming. However as a gamer I was just looking forward to the games..

There isn't a lot of games I attribute to the Xbox ONE unlike the 360. I felt Microsoft was taking a step in a direction that didn't suit my taste trying to make the XBONE a multimedia device or the ONE device you have in your living room rather than making a great console.
