The phrase 'easter egg' was coined after the 1980 game Adventure, when Atari still had a policy of not crediting its devs to keep competitors from poaching them, prompting developer Warren Robinett to hide a credit to himself in a secret in-game room. But did you know that wasn't the first easter egg? That's widely said to have come in 1973's Moonlander, in which a McDonald's restaurant was (for some reason) hidden on the Moon.
'Easter egg' has since come to mean a fun secret or reference for those in the know, and we want to know which are your favourites and why! Maybe you stumbled upon it yourself without seeing it online first, or perhaps it's the cherry on top of a particularly memorable quest or game for you.
Having featured in games for around 50 years, there are now a lot to choose from. Explain what the easter egg is, why you enjoy it so much, and provide an image, video, or any other form of proof of its existence to net $5.
