Hello everyone,
Recently, I've noticed some confusion around the definition of "content creator" and what exactly counts as "content." This term seems to have a broad meaning, and I'd love to hear your thoughts.
By the broadest definition, a content creator could be anyone producing any form of mass media. This could include everything from TV shows to fanfiction voice-overs. However, opinions seem to vary widely.
Video Makers Only? Some people believe that only video creators, such as YouTubers, TikTokers, and streamers, qualify as content creators.
Amateurs vs. Professionals: Others think that only amateurs count as content creators, and once a person is backed by a production team, they are no longer considered a content creator.
Different Categories: Certain conferences and events categorize content creators as only including those active on platforms like YouTube and TikTok, while journalists and traditional media producers are considered part of the press.
In my opinion, the term "content creator" should be inclusive and flexible, reflecting the diversity of modern media and creative expression.
Here are a few questions to get the discussion started:
What is your definition of a content creator?
What types of work do you consider to be content?
At what point does someone stop being a content creator and become something else, if at all?
