Passionate, knowledgeable fans create some of the best stuff on the internet. They post it to a wide range of social and community platforms, each of which treats its users slightly differently. One thing they almost all have in common, though, is they monetise the content they make.
Some of them share that money back with the people who made the content, such as YouTube and Twitch, where it's possible to become a full-time creator. And that's great! Unfortunately it's also pretty hard to do - the dials on those platforms are tuned such that you need to build a huge audience before you'll see any money of note. And many platforms have no reward systems at all.
One of Just About's founding beliefs is that that's unfair. We want to make sure you earn something for the time, skills, knowledge, and effort you invest in our community. Our unique reward system is our main method for doing that.
Here's how it works.
What are rewards?
Think of Just About's rewards as content creation contests.
Rewards are currently set by the Just About content team, though we run regular 'suggest-a-reward' contests to source ideas from the community, too.
Rewards post a number of up-front real-money prizes in exchange for your submissions.
If your content is selected as a winner, it's highlighted as such - shining a spotlight on your hard work for all to see and enjoy - and all winners receive the promised prize. Ker-ching!
On some communities, winning submissions may be used in a piece of 'curated content', and preserved for all to enjoy.
How rewards work
In each reward post you’ll find clear information about:
The topic that’s being discussed or the content that is requested.
The format your submission should follow to be eligible as an entry. Please read this carefully!
The criteria for selecting winning submissions.
The prizes that are available and how they’ll be split (if at all).
The terms and conditions that apply to all entries.
Most rewards on Just About are 'evergreen' rewards. That means that:
Submissions will be judged and awarded on a regular basis.
To receive a prize, your submission must meet all eligibility criteria and be of good quality; we will reject entries that just do the bare minimum and don't add value to the community!
The reward will have a very long deadline (three months, by default), so you can take as long as you need over your submission, and the reward will likely close when all prizes have been claimed.
Some rewards can't follow the evergreen format, typically because they are more time-sensitive (e.g. they're based on an in-game event) or because some prizes are reserved for the best overall entrants and can therefore only be judged once all entrants have been submitted (we call these 'podium' rewards).
In these cases the deadline for submissions will be shown, and the reward will only close and be judged after it passes. Please see the 'rewards' section of our Terms of Use for more information.
Remember all features are subject to change as we balance the platform and enter new testing phases.
How to win more rewards
Just About exists to reward authentic human knowledge, passion, and creativity, from real fans.
Several things follow from this when it comes to the kind of content we're hoping to see. To maximise your chances of winning a reward, follow these helpful rules of thumb:
Share your own original thoughts and ideas! Don't rely on generative AI and certainly don't plagiarise (copy content from others without crediting). Please read the Community Code of Conduct and our AI content policy for more details. We want to hear from you, not robots.
Read the reward description and instructions carefully! It's tempting to skim the details, but to keep things fair for all members we will reject submissions that don't meet the brief, so read it thoroughly to avoid disappointment.
Connect your social accounts! Some rewards will ask that you first post the content on a social media account that you have connected to your Just About profile, and then to submit that post to the reward. You can read more about how and why to connect your socials here.
Finally, submit in good faith and make great stuff! Just About exists to reward real fans, who know and care about their topics and communities. Please resist the urge to enter as many rewards as possible with low-quality content; for other members, it's just as dispiriting to wade through content from human authors who don't know or care about the topic as it is generic AI content. Instead, follow the spirit of the reward as well as the letter, create content that brings value to others, and say something that Google, an AI, or an uninformed human could not.
Reward formats
One of the key features of Just About is the way we work with third-party content platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. It means that if you link your Just About account with your other creator platforms, you can easily submit entries for rewards using content you've created elsewhere. We want you to use the social media you already have access to, as well as the tools we have on Just About.
This allows us to go further than rewards that simply require text submissions, such as a 'how to' post or a community-sourced 'getting started' guide. You'll certainly see those posted on Just About, but we also seek submissions in both short and long-form video formats.
That might be a let's-play of a new level or raid, for example, or a shorter clip demonstrating the moveset of a new character, or your best TikTok reaction videos to the first reveal of a major new game.
Other rewards will have a more open submission format, allowing you to share your passion in whatever way best suits you and your skills. However and wherever you want to create content online, we'll have rewards to suit. We want everyone to feel they can get involved.
Reward types
What kind of rewards can you expect to see on Just About?
Crowdsourcing your expertise
Every Just About community is bursting with knowledge and expertise. It should be a real, friendly, accessible resource.
So when the community wants to build helpful content, such as a guide, the best way to do that is to draw on their experience and passion and pull that knowledge together.
This might be a longform written or video guide, a wiki-style resources list, or possibly a number of smaller 'how to' style pieces.
Celebrating your creative achievements
Some games have creativity at their core.
If, for example, your No Man’s Sky base has been a labour of love that you couldn’t be prouder of, we want you to have the opportunity to show it off to the community, inspire others, and be rewarded for your achievement.
Alternatively, there may be times where the community’s challenged to work together on a creative endeavour.
Every topic on Just About has creative opportunities to explore, and we’ll be working closely with you all to develop creative rewards that are inspiring and exciting to take part in.
Competitions
Some rewards might be posted in the form of a simple competition, with different prizes for first, second and third places.
An example of this would be a fan art competition, or a collection of reaction videos, where a particular theme has been chosen by the reward creator.
Once all of the submissions have been received, the reward creator will select the winning entries, which will then be celebrated and showcased.
Simple answers to simple questions
Sometimes there’s something specific that other players or users would benefit from knowing, and that another community member is well-placed to help with.
In these instances we might create a lower-value reward that just needs a simple answer, with a single prize available.
This is just the beginning for rewards on Just About, and a small example of the type and formats that we'll be rolling out and experimenting with.
Keep in mind that even if you don’t win a reward, but your content is used as extra info, you’ll be tagged as a contributor in the article. That means you’ll receive a share of any advertising revenue generated by that article over time.
We’ll continue experimenting with different formats in partnership with our communities, and we’d love to hear your feedback on how we can improve this feature for you.
Head over to our Just About community space if you'd like to share your thoughts on how we can make rewards better.
