Don’t have much experience with this although it’s something I am interested in learning more and maybe using myself in the future but I had noticed the top line Amazon tablet which is much cheaper than iPads etc which may be useful if on a tighter budget as it uses a stylus and looks like it may be quite good. Also has nearly 50% off now too -

Amazon Fire Max 11 tablet and Stylus Pen - https://amzn.to/3NaLu6q

Might be worth checking out

Price definitely looks reasonable. Is this running Android or some own Amazon OS?

Fire OS, which is a skinned version of Android for Amazon, think you can probably side load vanilla Android on to it tho, prob videos on YouTube showing how to do it

I just got S24 Ultra, but it's still a glass.
I still take notes on paper, as there's always plenty of it around, like delivery papers, which I can reuse on the other side – that way, nothing goes to waste.

definitely a nice phone, I used to have a loved Samsung phones. For how the workbooks look, and A4-ish size would be more comfortable that's why I'm leaning more towards tablets.

That's what I'm doing now, just scribble on any odd paper I find and it's starting to get messy. Too many FFXIV crafting / housing stuff and I haven't even touched my new Nightingale base yet XD

Ouch, you better do! I have some inspirational stuff for ya!

If you are not drawing, then maybe a e-ink stuff might help you, like a very-overpriced reMarkable - The future of paper is here | reMarkable

Remarkable is a bit higher than the budget I have right now. Would love to try one out before settling on buying one if it's the right thing for me. Was thinking about the Kindle Scribe for this reason as it doesn't cost that much. And yeah I'm not drawing, just writing on pdf workbooks and scribble some notes.

Will hop in tomorrow actually, want to do the timelapse bounty and get a starting base up!

I use a Galaxy Tab S6 Lite with a matte screen protector and works really good, the SPen that comes with the Tablet works really good with the protector but I recommend to buy extra pen tips that are really cheap!

The tab S6 lite can be found with prices less than 200 usd, maybe if you look better you could find less than 150

I use Samsung's Tablet S6 Lite and I've got used to the look of the screen. But for those of you who find it slippery, you could try a matte film, which imitates the functionality of paper. I think it would be worth your while to try this film regardless of which one you choose!

Update:

so after doing some research the only 2 stylus people recommend for accuracy / precision is either Apple Pencil (more the newer models) or the Samsung S Pen. So probably I'll wait until Black Friday sales and look around if I can find an older version of iPad or the Samsung Tab S6 Lite since more people are recommending it here. Don't want to spend more than $200 tops for something which I would be just trying out.

Kindle Scribe felt nice to write on when I tried it, but the software side sounds too much hassle. Found one paperlike tablet which could be interesting, the Boox tablet runs Android so it can also open Android apps, which means that apart from it's own note-taking app I could open my Japanese apps on it and do the writing practice lessons. But I found a Reddit tread with scary reviews that apparently the screen will just die, like black lines appear randomly on the screen even if you just leave it on your desk and Boox is not very good with customer support, they just say "oh you put pressure on the screen". So I'm reluctant to buy something £500+ and then not get proper support for it.
