I’ll not be upgrading because my PS5 still makes me drool lol. I know it’s something every gamer has thought since Doom came out: “how could games get better looking than this?” But truly it feels like we’re at the point where the human eye would be challenged to distinguish an upgrade.

I won't be upgrading because the consoles are so expensive and I feel they could have easily made this the normal ps5 spec. Unfortunately they will try to make as much money as possible off people rather than produce the best possible console first.

I can't see it being worth the upgrade. The biggest performance gains now on pc are coming from combining frame gen and advanced upscaling tech. In my eyes, dlss upscaling in quality mode at 1440p gives a better quality image than native res. Frame generation tech then takes it one further and you get great image quality and high frame rates without a massive bump in hardware specs.

If they have managed to get AMD's upscaling version (which isn't quite as good) and fsr3 frame gen integrated into it, then it might be worth it as that would be a very significant performance increase. These technologies are going to be where the big gains comes from in the next gen if they are absent in the mid gen refresh.

so they will be a viable crypto mining rig again?

haha you tell me! Worth it with high energy costs?

it's an interesting question! The current tier of solar panels actually pretty impressive even for northern countries where the count of sunny days is limited. Besides, it can solve the issue of energy overproduction, so instead of ditching it to your Tesla for storage, you can burn it in AMD BC-250 APUs of PS5 =)))

one thing that I think will be a big factor in the success of this device if it is real is GTA 6. If this launches at a similar time and becomes the best place to play GTA 6 I can see it shifting a lot of units, even maybe as a bundle!? I could see that happening! Also if Xbox really isn’t going a mid cycle refresh it could add to the thought of the best console experience for GTA 6 being on PS5 pro! Only time will tell if Xbox doesn’t do a power upgrade mid refresh and if this PS5 Pro device is on the way with GTA 6 but it is fun to talk about!

Yeah true it annoys me I'm going to have to buy a ps5 for 1 game because it's sure to be ages for the pc version. If it does exist and it's not a huge amount more then I will consider it.

However I can't see there being that much of a noticeable difference in practice, other than a few zoomed in digital foundry comparisons.

All the time and effort will be going into the performance on the base consoles, that 95% of the userbase will be playing it on.

Well considering the fact they have already said the Ps6 is coming faster than anticipated, I am curious as to why. But, if my son asks for a Ps5 pro, if it's worth it, I shall happily buy it for him.
