sharp objects has a fairly plain book cover, and another version that's just the poster from the HBO series, so i thought it would be a great cover to reimagine (other than loving both the book and the series)! i drew the house/dollhouse that plays a large part of the story and referenced the final reveal in the shape that my trees make.

For this bounty, i have chosen to redesign the cover of Jennette McCurdy's "I'm Glad My Mom Died," because the bold, raw design of the cover is a strong reflection of the book itself but for a more introspective piece that would allow for emotional weight and vulnerability while still reflecting some of the comedy and bluntness present in the story.

My new cover emphasises a symbolic image: a miniature childhood trophy with the base cracked, sitting on a vanity and lit softly from below to illustrate the broken expectations and the fragile perfection she had to maintain. In the background, there's a faded mirror with Jennette's silhouette in it, giving an idea about identity and self-reflection.

I’ve included a work-in-progress shot to show my initial sketch and layering process. I also attached the original cover for comparison to show how I reinterpreted the tone while still honouring the core themes.

When it came to colour, I loved the original colour palette, so I touched on notes of that to help bring my cover to life. I also deliberately chose to sketch out and use the pencil tool for the book's illustrations. This was to touch on the fact that this is a biography, in some ways a diary, and there are parts of the book where McCurdy refers to handwritten letters.

Programmes used:
Pro create - to sketch out ideas and for the illustration
Adobe Illustrater - to put all the elements together and add text with 3D render
Adobe Photoshop - to create the mock up

*Grammerly plug-in used to help with grammar and spelling mistakes for the wordy bits above :)

This is not a mirrored image or digital manipulation – it was captured exactly as you see it through my camera lens, nearly two years ago. Despite the sunny day, the scene carries an undeniable sense of mystery. For me, it perfectly reflects the atmosphere of The Forest Lake Mystery by Palle Rosenkrantz.

The torn paper element intentionally breaks the visual symmetry. It conceals the point where water meets air, obscuring the truth – like a puzzle with a missing piece. It’s more than a design choice; it’s a metaphor.

The font, with its slightly aged elegance, nods to the book’s history – first published in 1903.

A subdued, warm palette of forest greens, muted browns, and soft shadows grounds the image in an earthy, natural tone.
