Just about holidays!

I’m the sort of person who loves to have a holiday book and with two children, it would be amazing have an input from other people.

I’m an avid trip advisor user and having a community where I can ask questions, get photos and honest reviews would be amazing!

Great idea Emmaeb25

The only thing better than talking about holidays, is being on them. 🏖️

Selfishly the two gaming communities I'd like to see are Street Fighter (6, or the series as a whole?) and Overwatch 2 cos that's all I play at the moment haha.

But my actual question is eventually, down the road, are you looking to have communities that are user created? I'm assuming so from conversations I've had about JA (I could be wrong?)

It's just my thinking is, expanding from gaming, is that JA could be a good place for content creators communities. Either communities for the fans of certain content creators (hopefully run by the content creators themselves, big and small) but also communities OF content creators looking for a place to discuss that rapidly changing industry.

I can imagine creators running their own communities being able to set bounties like "create a clip of my stream, the best of the month wins $x" or for fanart, fan edits etc etc. Or guides on getting started in streaming, more advanced creator tips (editing, filming tools etc)

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if this has already been discussed and I'm late to the party haha

Absolutely. Without wanting to give away all the top secret plans, you've identified quite a few things that we are working on:

  • Game-specific communities (such as Just About Street Fighter and Just About Overwatch) are a core part of the early plan. Any game or franchise that is going to be around for years to come is in our sights: live service and multiplayer games especially. We think we can do a particularly good job where there's a high information need (or disparity between those "in the know" and the rest of the player base), where community members are the best-placed people to share advice & help. We want to incentivise, encourage, and give them a great place to do so - in discussions, in articles, in video...

  • We also have plans to create communities around other fandoms, interests and topics - so it's not just about individual games, it's about other related passions. Again, we are focusing on topics where community members can help, inform and entertain others. (And although we've got the first few planned, we're very much looking for suggestions for more here!).

  • And a "Just About Content Academy" is also part of the plan, so we can encourage and reward peer to peer creator support.

We did have the thought that ultimately we could end up with "Just About [creator name]" too. The ideas you've suggested are great! And by connecting your different creator accounts to your Just About profile, we could easily create a really cool aggregation of all your content on different platforms in one place...

Ultimately, we want to be "Just About Anything". We're publishing our Roadmap on Monday which includes user-created communities, although they are a little bit down the road. We want to prove the platform, to ensure both the technology and the economy is sustainable, before we take that big step!

I really love these ideas! Many content creators so far used Twitter as their main platform to interact with their viewers and the gaming community. With all the recent changes many of them are looking for a new platform, and there is not really a good alternative out there at the moment.

I think Just About would be perfect for it. A place to talk about our favourite games, share our works uploaded to different platforms, and engage with our audience in a way the comment sections of platforms such as Youtube don't really allow it. So I definitely support the idea of having individual game communities, where fans of the franchise can find each other and share the love and amazing content.

The Just About Content Academy is a fantastic plan, there are many aspiring content creators out there, and would be great to have a place where they can learn from each other and from mentors among the established content creators.

AS

Selfishly, would love to see Just About Speedrunning :)

i am guessing that a just about Sport has already been considered or suggested where sub categories for different sports can be added

Dave's avatar

Vote for Fortnite from me. Really got into it in again in chapter 4 thanks to the no build mode after a few years off due to the builds needing too much skill and practice.

Ric Lumb's avatar

A gamedev community would be good. Perhaps if there are sub-categories you could have different groups for engines and tools too. "Just About Blender" etc. with an emphasis on tips would be nice so we can share things to help others and vice-versa. Just my penniesworth anyway, not sure if you want that sort of thing or more fan-based categories.

Rupert's avatar

Developer (and creator) focused communities are definitely quite high on the list once we've got some fan communities up and running nicely.

We'd love to be able to offer bounties and rewards for people helping others in all sorts of areas beyond just games - PC Building, coding, career advice, home automation...... etc

SFBoomer's avatar

Communities I'd like to see are:

  • Halo (not specifically Infinite, but including Master Chief Collection etc.) - could include let's plays, map builds, machinima, lore, screenshot competitions, update discussions, cosplay/fanart etc

  • Magic: the Gathering - could include deck building strategies, card pulls, let's plays (if MtG: Arena), explaining combos, new releases, balance discussions, cosplay/fanart etc.

  • Elder Scrolls Online, Fallout 76 - could include lore posts, screenshot competitons, update discussions, cosplay/fanart

It's great to hear that fan-initiated communities are on the roadmap, and I've got a few questions about this.

  • Does this mean that the fans can start a (for example) Magic: the Gathering community without Wizards being involved?

  • If so, then how would it be handled if/when the brand owner decides to get involved after the community has been set up?

  • Would the (fan) mods / admin team maintaining the community be replaced with the brand owner's own mods / admin, or would there be some hybrid model where they then report to the brand owners?

I love the idea MrTomFTW had about content creators setting Bounties for clipping their favourite section of video. This was an incredibly popular thing to do in a let's play / podcast community I was part of. The community would watch the livestream podcasts and make gifs of funny moments. These became material to be used across the brand socials, essentially having the community farm marketing / social content!

Hello! My suggestion would be Genshin Impact.

Big benefits are its huge community, it is also a very friendly community, many youtubers and also many topics for guides etc. There is only 2 Guide websites out there so having a third source would kinda be a nice thing.

Marvel Snap. It's already buzzing, but it would make even more sense with it's recent Windows port.

Rushlock's avatar

Expanding on MacGybo a bit, but I came in planning to mention Marvel in general, and then realized it should be Comics in general. I'm a huge X-Men fan and would love interacting with more comic fans old and new.

EVE Players are old, so dipping into nostalgia, LEGO. Still selling sets, and in recent years dipping into the nostalgia markets releasing high end sets that are throw backs to 90s themes.

Retro Games. What did we grow up playing? Maybe a large chunk of people played FF7, but imagine stumbling upon the folks that also played Shining Force 2.

Rupert's avatar

I think the potential for Just About LEGO could be huge! So much creativity and interesting things we could do with bounties and rewards, not to mention all the various different spin-offs and so on. And... this:

Absolutely, and it branches into so many other IPs as well.

Just about Armored Core!

Not sure if this is a good Idea but Just about DnD? Maybe getting some networking and build games within the community.

This would be great. I'm a die-hard DnD fan and i'm currently finishing writing my first campaign. - Deffo support this idea :D

I think it would be remiss to not mention World of Warcraft as its one of the largest and longest running MMORPGs to this day. Some of the community can be toxic, but that's honestly why having a different avenue for people to go would be a great thing. The official forums are awful with the amount of doom and gloom regardless of whether its deserved.

There is also a plethora of content creators such as Evitel and Taliesen, SoulSoBreezy, Bellular, DoronsMovies, etc that would likely generate content here as well or share their content with a broader gaming community.

Cross Pollinating MMOs is important for a variety of reason, one of which is to bring those communities together as one larger gaming community and another is to show people about other MMOs they might enjoy.

Without World of Warcraft I would never have joined EVE in 2008. I was primarily a console gamer focusing on shooters. It wasn't until my Junior High friends introduced me to WOW that that I got a decent PC and made more friends online. One of those friends, a british guy by the handle "BruteForces" got me to try out EVE and I have been playing ever since.

As content creators... what about the tech that supports the content creation??

JustAbout Streaming (for content creation)

JustAbout Videography (for content creation)

and so on..

People could share some of their handy hints and tips for content creation.

I know for example, there are some of the guys in the EVE Online community that make amazing content videos - how they do it, what software they use and so on could help and inspire others to give it a try, thus making the community more vibrant in the process.

Boomer's avatar

Members sharing tips on their content creation process would be ideal.

I love seeing the screenshots and photo mode content people make, and it would be amazing to hear about how they come up with, capture, and edit those shots.

I still think Ghost of Tsushima has my favourite photo mode!

Great idea. Watch this space! Something is brewing, this week.....

Excellent... i'll get the good tea-bags out then! :D

I eagerly await the tech category, to be honest. You could have:

  • Steam Deck and/or handheld gaming (Asus ROG, Ayaneo, OneXPlayer, etc.)

  • PC setups

  • Smart homes and lighting

  • Keyboards (custom built, keycaps, and mods)

  • Smartphones

  • Audio (headphones, soundbars, speakers, IEMs)

  • Displays (TV, monitors)

But I'm biased because I'm a hardware nut. Other than that:

  • Music - simple, clear, and fits into #1 Lots to see. I'm always looking for new recommendations.

    • Video game sounds

    • Rock

    • Metal

    • Pop

    • Electronic

    • Hip hop

    • R'n'B

Movies and TV could also be broken up by genre, or include popular franchises. The issue with franchises is that you'll then see things double up, like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and others that span both.

Again, I'd stick to genres with gaming if you can't justify a dedicated community to a single game that might not have the traction:

  • Racing games

  • Fighting games

  • RPGs

  • FPS games

And finally, I think you could craft a space for competitive games and those that like watching and participating in esports.

FUN INC's avatar

100% agree re: tech, but content creation should be for everyone - and it can be done on a shoestring - so perhaps even a section on "content creation on a shoestring"? - eg. a streamdeck can be made really easily - the only limitation is your imagination... and of course whether you can mail order it from amazon!!

I'd probably catch-all this under a 'mods' section since it doesn't fit into any of the ones I suggested. Or it could be content creator / influencer tech like you suggested in a different comment!

Luiz's avatar

I'm loving the music suggestion! So much amazing indie music out there. Definitely the possibility to break it down by genre.

Ross's avatar

I'd love to see a community for 'Design in content creation' - Or something along those lines.

As a graphic designer I love seeing the unique ways that various creators find to brand themselves and it could be a good forum for discussion on what helps make creators stand out from the crowd.

A

In theory, other MMOs with an active community could fit, such as Guild Wars 2 or World of Warcraft. However, it depends heavily on how the communities behave and what content they generate. Es.: Guild Wars 2 has most of the content about "how to do x ingame" (guides, builds and the like) and other things, like virtual photography (which really is only about fashion) or lore/roleplay are small niches.

Virtual Photography is an hobby that has a following, but first you have many different IPs (each game/game series is an IP); second, what would make a vper move from X, Instagram, the dedicated mobile apps (that seems all the rage but which I really cannot get to like) where they already have a follow to cross post on Just About?
