Loved this - both sides capture a different version of a cosy wintry space. Curator's Pick for all the thought and care you've shown and the clarity with which you illustrate it!

Thanks! Sorry for the late reply, I must have overlooked the comment in the notifications. Just a thought it would be cool if there was an icon or maybe different color text for tagging or comment notifications :) would be cool.

It hurt to do so, but I completely dismantled The Gothic Grind to make a winter haven... and then I put it right back AND with better furniture!

The video is below, but I recorded the whole process (making the haven, then upgrading The Gothic Grind) as a "fall asleep to" video. The final product of the haven is complete at 48:20 in the video.

Also included the images below. The proper guide/rationale for what makes it a haven is written below the Blue Sky post. I say all this in the video, but the written summary should save ya some time :)

When I think "Winter Haven" I don't think winter themed or winter colors, I think of a diner at 6,000 feet elevation that has been around since 1973. Hardly anything matches, the things that do match have various degrees of discoloration, and there is a clear mixing of home made and store bought peppered into the timeline.

The stuffing is poking out of some chairs, young people who have long since moved away are still remembered by the initials they carved into the surface of booth tables, all the faults you may find fade away in a truly cozy winter haven over time.

On my bottom level, there are mismatched tables and chairs serving function over fashion. The four seater table by the window has three chairs of the same color, one slightly off color to denote a different age, reupholstering or staining, and a fourth just completely different. The couch by the door is the classic "grandma" couch that is gaudy and lost its cushion's softness in the 80's. The carpet by the cash register and the door USED to be the same color, but from muddy, snowy boots, the one by the door has lost its luster.

The way I imagined it is that the upper area is the "critter party" rentable space, so it's somewhat more uniform, designed for large groups, but even still, the "wine auntie" corner (as I called it in the video) is a mix of different patterns, and one of the stools at the tables against the wall is also off color. They tried their hardest to make the furniture match, but the carpets and table cloths are still just a LITTLE different. The critter play area is made of a mix of handmade and store bought apparatuses.

Finally, on both levels, pictures. Every rural diner and cafe I've ever been to has dozens if not scores of pictures. There aren't VERY many different frame options in Critter Cafe, so I went sparingly, but ideally, every wall would be covered in frames and memorabilia of all sizes.

That's what I think of when I think winter haven. Janky, possibly even ugly, but home.

I hadn't really pictured the kind of diner you describe as a 'wintry haven' but with your rationale here it makes total sense - I get ancient alpine restaurant vibes, but specifically the kind that you don't find anywhere near the downhill slopes and have been run by the same family for generations.

Curator's Pick for the unique but authentic vision and the ton of effort you've put into your submission here - thank you!

Glad you liked my take on it! I’ve got a diner like this near the base of the mountain I live on lol.

Also these are the places you find in the US 500 or less population towns on two lane, winding highways in the mountains. When I was a city boy and would camp at altitude, I’d always stop and get a waffle and coffee in a place like this on the way back home.

I used a lot of white in the decoration to give it more of a winter/snow idea, without losing the cozy feel!

So I've made my café with winter themed, my first inspiration was the snow so I grab a floor that reminded me snowflakes and the wallpaper I chose this one of a forest, and choose it white ,

After the basics done I start choosing my forfeitures, and my concept was the lower part to be an house interior so I choose fancy sofas and chairs with a red color to contrast with the floor, to the higher part, since I can't change the texture I decide to simulate snow with a lot of small carpets, and choose wood furniture and of course I put a fireplace to finish the winter/Christmas vibe.

Inventive solution to customising the floor on the deck area!

Critters are part of the cafe too! I keep the design quite spacious to have a place for maneuvering and for pets to play

I tried to make a cozy and comfortable place to have a hot chocolate at Christmas. I tried to use the colors that we know a lot about Christmas to make a contrast between them, I really like the idea of coziness, that's what would really interest me.

Welcome to the winter-themed café! Cozy and inviting, it offers several zones for visitors: whether you're alone or in a small group. There's an arcade game area, share-a-book shelves, and of course, a playground for critters. And don’t worry - the slide is equipped with a pillow. Safety first!

Now that you've watched the video, let’s play a mini hidden-object game! How many ice shards did you spot? Drop your answer in the comments! 👇

For the winter-themed cafe, I thought of creating two areas. One with a white floor and tables that recall the Christmas colors of green and red, very wide so as to leave room for the creatures to move. In the relaxation area I used the same colors with a dedicated area for games for my little creatures... and of course the red curtains cannot be missed.

I created a green setting to recall the colors of Christmas trees. Which then with the checked tablecloths recalls the country Christmas atmosphere. I decorated the rest with white curtains to recall the snow.

I tried to go for a winter log cabin aesthetic, as I've gone to many of them myself and love going there for a cup of hot coco or a nice warm meal in the winter months. I tried to make it feel warm and cozy so that it would be an inviting place to enter from the cold outsides.

I had a blast making this layout! I tried for a cozy, cottage-y look with the furniture I had available... I'm honestly a big fan of my custom rug, I think it ties the place together!

The snowman rug! That's so clever 😮 Love this setup!

How beautiful! Such a lovely cozy space, and love the seating around the fireplaces in particular :)

My word, if that fireplace seating area was any cosier it'd be warming a pot of tea
