Honestly I feel a bit indifferent about it.

There were some intresting games on display, Indiana Jones looks cool and I am temped by the new civ. However Im already aware of my most wanted game for next year as I follow the developer (Kingdomcome deliverance 2).

What I was happy with was that the adds were not as egregious as previous years and there was a diverse list of games shown.

One thing that has me worried is Boarderlands 4, that teaser trailer was not inked/comicbook styled so I really hope they are not leaning the game towards the film...

Hi Folks 😀

The presentation was brilliant like almost always and we hope to see the last game from many companies that was working in the last years

some people wait for INDIANA JONES or the new Xbox games that possibly will be available in PlayStation

I’m just keep my fingers crossed to see more VR GAMES for PSVR2

the Gamescom look that this year will be very interesting

Have a nice day people 😊

Well, tons of games, which is good to cover every taste.

Personally only 2 game got my attention:

  • Path of Exile 2

  • WarHammer 40K: Space Marine II

Was waiting for a new Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay or trailer presented by Ned Luke itsefl but it seems RockStar is taking their time with it.

It was alright in my book. No crazy shenanigans on stage this time and no appearance from Hideo Kojima, so it was definitely different. 😂

On my own, I probably wouldn't have watched ONL to be honest. I tuned into the re-stream of a content creator I support online and watched it together with him and the community.

There wasn't much in it for me. I can only remember the first (Borderlands 4) and the last (Mafia The Old Country) announcements. Both of them are aiming for 2025 so my excitement has already waned. For now.

I'm sure it's different for people attending and I'm proud that the biggest gaming convention is still happening in Germany but this year it wasn't that exciting to me.

Back to our regularly-scheduled program.

I felt pretty apathetic. It's less that there weren't some fun and interesting games, but that there was little that stood out and some that did (like Nikki) aren't games that I'm likely to play. There's only so many base-builders, first-person shooters, and gacha games that I can stomach. If this is the cream of the crop in terms of games coming up, then I'm underwhelmed. It really feels like smaller game developers are where the fun games are being made and those aren't likely to get Gamescom Open Night Live coverage any time soon.

That said, I'm open to being wrong. The new Black Ops with its 90s aesthetics and story actually looked interesting even though I've never touched any of the other entries in the series. Reanimal and Little Nightmares III are probably going to be on my watchlist for sales as I enjoyed Little Nightmares for its visual worldbuilding but felt the platforming was mediocre and punishing. I'm excited about Lost Records but I hate the split release format. Directive 8020 had a cool trailer but it's impossible to say how hyped to be for it. I like the Dark Pictures Anthology quite a bit.

It's not like I have major complaints. Nothing in the presentation was terrible, but nothing jumped out at me and demanded maximum enthusiasm even for the games that I'm actually looking forward to.

It's easily the most negative I've felt about a Geoff show.

So many games have shown off with little to no new detail compared to what we've seen already, instead offering odd details like a release date or platform compatibility. What new stuff we did see felt rushed and it's clear there is still a greed problem with these shows given how many developers have come out showcasing their games while criticizing the cost of being on a show like ONL.

Even the selection of indie games that did appear in the show I would rather see spotlighted in a showcase like Future Games where they will get more time to talk about the project and really sell the game to an audience and just have hosts that either knew what they were talking about or have scriptwriters with an editorial background to help the show feel more natural.

The irony of Geoff trying to take down E3 to effectively start dominating the game presentation space himself isn't lost on people now, and his shows are becoming quite vapid. His trying to then hype up The Game Awards at the end of the show was the final straw for me, and I think I'll just remove myself from these oddly manufactured events.

My only thought to this was when Monster Hunter Wilds comes out, you will not see me for a month. I will be too busy enjoying life.

It's hard to say, I always love to watch those events ou part of them and see what is coming in the world of videos games. And I think that this year we had a lot of good announcements and games overviews. Triple AAA games and indie ones, and I'm loving how much space the indie devs and small studios are gaining. And I love to buy and play those games, samll campaing with deep and involving those games are.

So it's good to see games like Dune: Awaking and Star Wars: Outlaw, but I get as much or more excited for games like Cairn and Monument Valley 3.

Very excited

I can't wait for Borderlands 4, the Borderlands games have gotta be some of my favorite games ever!

First time I watched it and was quite impressed with the general presentation. There was some interesting stuff in there (I’m curious to see more of Reanimal and Masters of Albion), but I’m not really feeling Indiana Jones and Call of Duty. Don’t know why, maybe I’m just looking for more new and unusual games these days?

I loved opening night for one specific announcement. There were so many great ones but this one really resonated with me.

As a big fan of Alien Isolation and a cosplayer of Supermassive games, I’m very excited for their new announced game of directive 8020, led by Lashana Lynch who is one of my favourite actors from the marvel franchise. I could not be more hyped for this 🙌

I quite liked it. Nothing amazing on show but the support from publisher's was good and I liked the format and having a live audience. I can see this becoming THE big showcase of the year in the lead up to the "holiday" sales period.

The absence of Playstation was notable & disappointing, they have really gone backwards with their lack of interest in industry/community events.

Civ 7 looked different enough to look forward to another new version. Dune I really have on my radar and paying a lot of attention to it but this presentation of it I was a bit disappointed with so much focus on PvP. Previously it looked very pve focussed so I hope this was just showing a different part of it and not that the focus has shifted as we get closer to the final product.

COD is like the fast food of gaming & I do like the look of this years entry.

Honestly im not very Impressed, aside from Borderlands 4 and the Hopeful Release of Stalker 2 in November it was not really a good show.

The Only Highlights for me was the Amazon Series for Videogames, and the WTF was Peter Molyneux..

I mean seriously he do it again ?

And the Game looked like a Mobile Game.

I feel the Last years were a bit better.

Maybe im Just getting old i dont know.

Gamescom: Opening Night Live 2024 was a major event that kicked off this year's Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, showcasing a wide range of exciting game announcements and trailers. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, the event featured a mix of big franchise updates and intriguing new titles.

Some of the standout announcements included Borderlands 4, which promises to bring more chaotic fun to the beloved series, and a new installment in the Little Nightmares franchise, Little Nightmares III, which for the first time introduces a cooperative mode for players to share the eerie experience. Additionally, the highly anticipated Civilization VII was announced, set to launch in February 2025, bringing new strategic challenges to the iconic series.

Another highlight was Squid Game: Unleashed, a mobile adaptation of the hit Netflix series, which is sure to draw in fans with its intense, survival-themed gameplay. On the indie side, Floatopia stood out as a cozy game where players can explore floating islands and engage in activities like farming and fishing.

Overall, the event was a thrilling preview of what's to come in the gaming world, with something for everyone, from AAA titles to indie gems

We should play Little Nightmare together!

Nothing.

With the years my level of "standard" grow.
But 99% of the games on Gamescom are

  • Unfinished

  • will have min. one DLC

  • No heartblood

  • just look like crap for 2024

  • They all look like the came out of the same or similar toolbox

  • Nothing new, just old and rebranded

And don´t forget "woke" and stuff like this for games?!

Horror Splatter game +18, only for Adults... got indexed because to heavy for kids.

Welcome to Germany the hoster of the Gamescom.

You now DOOM? INDEXED for 17 Years. (This was 2011)
Btw, after 25 Years it automatically lose this status.

There are some big issues within our creative community.

Movies, Games, Art everything doesn´t need rules.
We already have enough of them... of everything enough.

As many have mentioned, the show could have taken a different direction instead of mainly showcasing trailers. It definitely could have more elements of performance and interaction with game representatives.

I was on-site, but in a different hall, as I decided to focus on indie developers who can't afford the $100k needed to highlight their game trailer on the ONL's main stage. I'll be posting soon about what that event was like.

I think I'm interesting with some games like Dragon Ball and Little Nightmare 3

Tbh. I wasn’t on all too excited about the show. I think though there were some highlights that caught my eye. Borderlands 4 seems pretty decent, and I think Indiana Jones will do will to play on the nostalgia element for fans. It’s hard for them to not get excited about Indy again. Civilisation VII looks promising too bit I reckon you would deffo lose track of time with that one!

The show had a good mix, but there was nothing that really blew me away, it was a solid couple of hours though within enough of our variety to keep me interested even though I’m not really itching to play any of the games that they showed.

JB

For me it was pretty decent. I wasn't expecting much beyond some safe and expected new announcements and I wouldn't say there was a huge amount of surprises but there were some solid bits of news to get excited about.

Borderlands 4 is an obvious one- after playing through all the previous games I will absolutely be getting this. The less said about the movie the better though!

Dying Light: the Beast is a hefty looking stand alone title. DL2 is already in my PS5 library but I'll definitely buy the ultimate edition upgrade to avoid having to buy this separately from September, as announced by Techland since the announcement.

Indiana Jones coming to PS5 was the biggest surprise. A weird move for Xbox who are already losing the 'console war' and this further threatens that for them. Another one added to my wishlist!

I think ONL was pretty decent beforehand I was looking forward to seeing more about Civilization VII and it didn't disappoint and now I can't wait to play it next February, other games that stood out to me were Lost Records: Bloom and Rage and Kingdom Come Deliverance II and considering all 3 of the games come out next February I am going to be pretty busy!
