Hey everyone
We’ve got some exciting changes to announce concerning bounties! First, we’re renaming them ‘rewards’, to better reflect what they entail and explain them to new members. You’ll have noticed the second, much more important change if you spotted (hat tip: CMDR Henckes) that reward cards now show ‘rewards remaining’ rather than the deadline.
Thing is, for many of our reward topics, a deadline doesn’t make much sense. ‘Recommend a brilliant fantasy novel’, for instance, is always relevant, and slapping an arbitrary date on it has various downsides. We know it’s not much fun waiting weeks before you get your prizes, for instance, and what if a new member joins just as a reward they’d have loved to contribute to is closing?
To fix this, we’re introducing Evergreen Rewards.
In these, submissions can be awarded before the reward has hit its deadline. This will have several positive effects:
You won’t have to wait for days or weeks to get your prizes;
Longer deadlines mean we can leave more rewards up for longer, so you have more reward opportunities at any given time;
Longer deadlines also mean you can take as long as you need over your submission.
A few rewards may still be judged after a deadline, but only where this makes sense, like if there’s a time-sensitive event happening in a game. Starting from now (and not applying retroactively) most rewards across the platform will be evergreen. They’ll have much longer deadlines than before (three months by default), but we’ll sweep the platform regularly for new submissions, and immediately award those that:
a) meet the reward’s criteria, and
b) are judged to be of sufficient quality, so as always, low-effort AI submissions or anything else that doesn’t add value will be rejected even if they technically meet the brief!
Prizes will be awarded on a first-come, first-served, as-long-as-they’re-good-enough basis, and as ever, only one submission per member is allowed. The reward will only close once all prizes are claimed, or when the super-long deadline is hit.
If a reward is so popular that the prizes are all snapped up quickly, don’t worry: we’ll take it as a signal of community interest, and you may see it again at some point 😉if that sounds generous, firstly: thanks, we’re glad you think so!
And secondly: remember that our goal with Just About is to ensure our member-creators (that’s you) get the rewards they deserve for making great stuff, but also that our brand partners benefit when you do. That means it’s in everyone’s interest - yours, ours, theirs - for us to ensure you don’t miss out.
Bottom line: if your work is of value (and you’re not trying to game our rewards) we want you to get paid.
This update is intended to make that easier and more likely for all of us. As always: if you have any questions or feedback at all, just shout in the comments!
