Set It Off - Why Worry

Released during my stint at university, Set It Off's Why Worry was serendipitous with an upbeat tune and lyrics that put things into perspective. It's easy to think that whatever burden rests on our shoulders is monumental as if we're Altas himself holding up the skies.

The first verse sets the tone, capturing the crushing feeling we all get in our chests when worry strikes, but leads into a chorus that questions it all:

[Verse 1]
This sinking feeling sets,
It feels just like a hole inside your chest.
I know you're thinking,
No, no, no, no, it is easier said than done,
But please let me attest.
I know it's hard.
You're feeling like you're trapped,
But that's how you react,
When you cannot see the light.
But try and see the light.
I'm tellin' you,
No, no, no, no,
You're the only one
Standing in your way,
Just take a breath, relax, and tell me…

[Chorus]
Why?
Please tell me why do we worry?
Why?
Why do we worry at all?
Why?
Just tell me why do we worry?
When worry is never helping tell me why worry at all?

[Verse 2]
Why do we insist,
On crossing bridges that do not exist?
Let's take these issues
Step by step by step, to work it out,
Day by day by day we're falling down,
But life goes on.
I've got some questions,
Are you sick of feelin' sorry?
Uh huh,
And people sayin' not to worry?
Uh huh,
Sick of hearing this hakuna matata motto,
From people who won the lotto,
We're not that lucky.
Have you noticed that you're breathing?
Uh huh,
Look around and count your blessings,
Uh huh,
So when you're sick of all this stressin' and guessin' I'm suggestin' you turn this up and let them hear you sing it.

[Chorus]

[Breakdown]
Chin up, quit actin' like you're half dead.
Tears can only half fill how you’re feelin'.
Don't worry, be happy baby.
Stand up, life is too damn short,
That clock is ticking.
Man up, if ya feel me,
Everybody sing it.

[Chorus]

I can't say it's my favourite Set It Off song, as the band has some really good tunes out there, but the message couldn't be clearer, and it's something we all need to take on board.

Five Finger Death Punch - Cradle to the Grave

At first this may not sound like a positive song, however its about strength and never giving in, no matter what.

I listened to this song alot during a very hard time in my life when "giving in" was very much floating arround my head.

Alot of softer songs give great messages and motivation however at that time I didnt need soft, I needed it hammered in to me to dig in and keep the f* going.

"The soul that lives within my chest

Just won't allow me to turn out like the rest

This heart that's driving me on and on and on

Has the same vision and it keeps me f**ing strong"

And thats what this song does.

This is my feel good jam lately.
It's the intro of Persona 4 remixed by my favorite japanese DJ, Shinichi Osawa. I remember him tweeting "I just want make music happy world" and his work reflects that drive. All of his mixes feel great, inspire action. Clean burning. Uniquely potent.

Get up get up, it's time to get real.
You are standing in the middle of another world
it's hard to feel your real emotions
You are smiling in a shirt wet with bitter tears
Let me help you find a place to call it home
Pursuing my true self

Mosaics - Weekend in Paris 🙌 it’s such a great song and is so nostalgic for me as it was featured in one of my favourite shows before I had properly listened to the band. They are awesome

Breathin by Ariana Grande. I can’t tell you how much this song really helped my out. My anxiety was at an all time high and depression being at an all time low. I felt embarrassed to be going through a low mental health spell and then Ariana released this amazing song where I felt like she completely normalised bad mental health days. And the message is to just keep breathing. Simple and effective.

For me it is "Disturbed, The Sound Of Silence" - This song, especially the remix I am going to link below, is a song about how people fail to communicate, it is also loosely based on people with disabilities such as Autism etc. I also feel that this remix and the original, send a very clear message that introverts and those with Mental health difficulties are not alone.

I am back with more Poets of the Fall. 😁

Despite the ominous title, this song carries a very positive message of support and togetherness in a world where loneliness can seem overwhelming and hope difficult to find.

When I thought that I fought this war alone
You were there by my side on the frontline
When I thought that I fought without a cause
You gave me a reason to try

I don't usually listen to emotional songs like this but it is the first one I thought of when I read the bounty title. If you like the song, there is an acoustic version that I feel hits even harder - in a good way!

Side note: the new text editor rocks!!

Posts are very easy to make, the embeds work, and last week I could even go "Back" in my browser when I accidentally clicked off the website and my text was still there. 💯

A change is gonna come by Sam Cooke. This song is about overcoming systematic prejudice - it's very hopeful and it's just a beautiful song. A lot of songs written in the civil rights period share a similar message and have remained as hard-hitting ever since.

I think this post was made for me because I tell everyone about how much this song has arguably changed my way of thinking.

'Anthem' by Leonard Cohen is one of my favourite and most played songs ever, specifically for the line 'There is a crack, a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in'. My favourite sentiment ever in its suggestion that it's only when things are a little broken that true joy and peace (the light) can find its way into something/someone. ahhh I just love the concept so much . There is obviously biblical reference in this line, but I like to also think of it as something more universal to man. The line before that, 'Ring the bells that still can ring' is also a beautiful sentiment, that we should continue to celebrate 'ring the bells' even if there is little to celebrate.

Not so much a positive message, as a more positive feeling, my choice is Album Leaf's Twentytwofourteen. Could be anyone of their songs to be honest. They are adept at creating a soundscape that evokes calm, sometimes a bit of melancholy, but mainly nice melodic, ambient music which leaves you feeling happier and than you did 5 minutes ago. Can't go wrong with that.

Hwa Sa - Maria

This song is powerful for me because it has mean "inner conflicts and how to deal with your struggles without giving up."

especially on this verse (Translated Lyrics so we can know the meaning)

[Verse 1]
I've been criticized so much, I got an upset stomach (too much)
It's sad but what can I do (I do)
Everyone worked hard hating me
If you destroy me
Do I become food?

[Pre-Chorus]
I'm lonely, what do I do?
I even swallowed hatred
I have no strength to get mad
No time either uh uh
What's so disgusting?
Just go on your way
What's wrong with you?
You make me sad

i've been downed many times by people, and when i was down this is my song and thinking how i can fight people with my achievement or maybe i can do something to shut their mouth :)

Thank you HwaSa, Queen <3

I have two songs by AJR that send a positive message they are "100 Bad Days" and "Way Less Sad". They are about turning bad/embarrassing experiences into interesting stories, and how one may not be currently happy within the present moment but they could be a lot worse. This is shown within the chorus of both of these songs:

https://www.youtube.com/embed/2c4dB52ehAE?feature=oembed

100 Bad Days

"A hundred bad days made a hundred good stories
A hundred good stories make me interesting at parties
Yeah, no, I ain't scared of you
No, I ain't scared of you no more"

https://www.youtube.com/embed/VlVhUbGa2pg?feature=oembed

Way Less Sad

"Don't you love it, don't you love it?
No, I ain't happy yet
But I'm way less sad
Don't you love it, don't you love it?
No, I ain't happy yet (happy yet)
But I'm way less sad

I may be wrong, I may be wrong
It's stupid but it's all I have

Don't you love it, don't you love it?
No, I ain't happy yet
But I'm way less sad"

Dear Mr President - P!NK

Basically anything by P!NK could go in here but I'm settling on this one because not only is it a really meaningful song to so many people but it's also a stunning vocal by a deeply underrated artist!

A song that's had a special place in my heart for while now is 'Ottolenghi' by British rapper Loyle Carner.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/I55oZGIewkg?feature=oembed

Released back in 2019, Ottolenghi was written by Loyle after an experience he had whilst on the train. He overheard a conversation between a little girl and her mother where the girl asked if the sun would come back after it had started raining.

Loyle himself has said that the conversation became a powerful metaphor to him, where he compared his feelings to the sun and rain. In layman's terms, his happiness being the sun and his sadness the rain.

The song just sounds cosy and soft, like a warm hug, but It's the chorus sung by Jordan Rakei that I find particularly powerful.

Born and raised
Made attempts to crawl away
Find a way to exist and hide your face, some relate
Leave everything in yesterday

Leave everything in yesterday

It's this lyric that I recite to myself if I'm ever having a tough day, I don't see it as a message to bury and forget about the past, I see it as encouragement to live in the present, and to make the most of it.

The song serves as a reminder to me that the sun will come out again, even it's a particularly rainy day, and it’s a reminder that as important as the past may be, it’s okay for me to try and “leave everything in yesterday.”

Warkings - Never Surrender

https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/2RcPjF9lHAx8MBsQCvCCPO?utm_source=oembed

One of my favourite songs from Warkings. I love power metal because of the energy of the songs, but this one is especially close to my heart due to the Norse mythology theme. The song is a battle cry of Norseman going into war, knowing they have Valhalla waiting for them if they die in a glorious battle.

Never surrender, no one will remember
Your name will be lost in the past
Never surrender, no one will remember
Your heart and soul, written in blood

But the song sends a very strong message in our current times as well. If you give up, no one will remember you. Find your "Valhalla", a goal you want to reach, and don't give up until you got there.

Colbie Caillat - Try

This is one of my favourite artists and this song in particular tries to send a positive message.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/GXoZLPSw8U8?feature=oembed

The positive message this song tries to convey is that its ok to be just you and that you don't always need to do things like change your appearance and make an effort to get people to like you.

A

Sounds super random but its a song on John Cena's album from the mid 2000's. I Couldn't afford the 40 euros as a kid but when i got spotify and listened to it on 2016 his song "Right Now" has one of my favourite positive lyrics

Fear nothing
Take Chances
Not afraid to fail
Always making advances

I think these lyrics are incredibly powerful and positive because we see failure as a negative thing when it can be super positive
