Mike Oldfield

Michael Gordon Oldfield (born 15 May 1953) is an English musician, songwriter and producer best known for his debut studio album Tubular Bells (1973), which became an unexpected critical and commercial success. Though primarily a guitarist, Oldfield played a range of instruments, which includes keyboards and percussion, as well as vocals. He had adopted a range of musical styles throughout his career, including progressive rock, world, folk, classical, electronic, ambient and new age music.

This is a great submission Sneaky_Prawn and I love Mike Oldfield, just not sure he counts as obscure compared to some of our other nominations, that's all! As you say, Tubular Bells was massive (deservedly so) and he's still working with big names today.

I expect you probably already know all about this, but here's one of my recent favourites:

My best friend’s band Mosaics. I have been to everyone of their London shows and I’m so excited to say that they will be doing their first headlining gig in October 🙌 Getting to see a band from nearly its beginning has been such an amazing experience and shows how smaller artists can contain just as much talent, soul and creativity as people with more out reach.

London people, I urge you to go see them if you are free for a gig

Their newest single sleep talk has been stuck in my head for weeks and if you love politically outspoken, indie artists with rocky guitar solos and the occasional saxophone appearance, you will love them!

MOSLAYICS WOOOOO!!! MY FAVOURITE BAND OF ALL TIME 😭❤️

A

Am I allowed to vouch for myself? Haha.

But yeah, I started music because of Toby Fox's work on Deltarune, way back in 2018. I picked up a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) just a few weeks after it came out. It's been almost 6 years since then, and I've learned a lot on how to design the sound of my music, I love using echo, reverb and bit-crushing. I have a wide variety of influences when it comes to the style of my music, but the main ones are Mick Gordon, Fredrik Thordendal, Toby Fox and Akira Yamaoka. I'm also "self-taught", in the sense that I have not educated myself at all on the practices on music. No tutorials or education, I simply just put together what I think sounds good.

Sorry AstroWolf, no self promo on this bounty, but back when we launched our music community we did have a bounty specifically for the musicians among us to announce themselves and share their best work, and now that we've brought in a bunch more members, the time feels right to do that again. I'll book a music self-promo bounty for the next slot on our schedule and would love to see you submit to that 🙏

PS Your song is sick. Love the moody atmosphere. Would fit perfectly in a '90s shooter or RPG. Amazing work!

Aestheno (Geo Collins)

Once e-Sports broadcaster turned DJ, music producer, singer, model and vlogger, Geo has had quite an internet career and I've been following it for the last 5 years. It's been up and down but I love her persistence and passion for every industry she has been with.

Her music isn't something I'd stick on during a run, work out, or even actively but I do enjoy watching her progress. It is something of my bucketlist item of mine to take a trip down to London to rave to one of her DJ sets.

Apart from DJing she does also make music on Spotify and it's a mix of electronic, pop, and synth. I think it's quite incredible for a caster mainlining in FPS can be so multifaceted in their talents!

Listened to these guys religiously back in the 90's. Was in grade school then. Everybody was NSYNC, 50 Cent, or a select niche that liked Jimmy Eat World. Meanwhile I had El Oso, Ruby Vroom, and Irresistible Bliss.

Old school but still very catchy and a great listen even 40 years on. Flash and the Pan have a few albums widely available. Quite a quirky band and that's definitely what sets them apart!

Their music I guess is kind of a chilled disco/early dance music that's very easy to listen to.

They are from Australia, and so are generally a lot better known that side of the pond but did have a few hits that charted in some of the bigger music markets. Waiting for a Train is one such example, hitting no 7 in the UK.

Enjoy 😎

Tujiko Noriko - I found her songs at around 2005 and since then her electronic pop tracks always have a place in my playlists.

Sadly her subscriber base on a yputube is just over 1000 with morenthab 140 videos posted :(

She is also actress and director of the films, which are even more obscure

Any WoW players in the house? My WoW playing mates showed me this song as they knew I liked metal and I said I liked it. Then they told me it was from WoW so I had to admit WoW might not be that bad after all (I was playing Lineage 2 at the time and it was the constant morning banter at uni which game is better and we refused to play to other game)

Patrick Sheehy ('Pa Sheehy') and his former band 'Walking on Cars'.

'Walking On Cars' was an irish band, and Patrick is the singer of the band. This band is one of my favourite indie rock band. I've started to listen to their music since 2016. Their musics are really masterpiece, the arrangement, the melody, and Patrick's beautiful voice, they're all intoxicating. Moreover, their MVs are also beautifully arranged and filmed, they fit the lyrics and mood of the song perfectly. I would strongly recommend the song 'Speeding Cars' and "Don't Mind Me".

Sadly, the band announced its split up in August, 2020. It really broke my heart at that time, since they're the precious memory of my high school life. Fortunately, Patrick continues to produce music as a independent singer since the band splited up. The style of his music changed a little bit, but they're still beautiful.

3 Daft Monkeys are an amazing obscure band from Cornwall that blends folk, punk and world music while singing about some of the wildest things you could imagine a song to be about! They might not be a massively well known band but their creativity and expressiveness is so top-tier that they honestly have become one of my favourite bands ever.

I was lucky enough to see them live during Sidmouth Folk Festival this year, where they performed a song about a mermaid in a museum, a song about clowns written around the same time that the 45th US President was sworn in and one of my personal faves, an awesome song called "Power To The Peaceful"!

https://www.youtube.com/embed/q7u9Cnh9VvQ?feature=oembed

Their live show was so fun and it got everyone up and dancing to the music! I was also lucky enough to get to say hi to the band after, tell them how amazing they are and get a selfie with them too! They were really lovely and it made me feel really good to hear songs that had some much-needed wholesome vibes, wicked humour and positive messages! Their new album is coming out very soon so I'm excited to hear more from them!

Now i dont know if you would call this band little known - as there music has been hears by those who watched the tv series vikings, but it is a band that don't have a significantly super large following, well not one that im aware of.

Wadruna are a norwegian band that focus on folk style metal using alot of symbolism and ancient language in their lyrics. Its a band that i can happily sit in a room on my own and just listwn to thw music, hell when i saw them live i tried to record them but i just could focus on recording i kept vibing with the music.

Oliver Anthony love his songs, they come from the heart and he's a good guy that believes in people and being compassionate. This is one of my favorites called "I Wanna Go Home"https://youtu.be/xB9n0XA8dks?si=gKEPdHOyQzQcmA3d

This long-ass playlist from skeler was what kept my head in the game instead of overthinking everything and being paralyzed by my fears. It's what kept me going when I wasn't sure if I could. If I could continue pushing on, keeping on. I've almost given up so many times. I'm better now. Not much. Just a little bit. But it's enough for now.

One of the most obscure yet brilliant music artists I know is Moses Sumney. Although not completely unknown, he still flies under the radar for many mainstream listeners. Sumney is a genre-defying artist whose work blends soul, indie rock, ambient, and electronic music with intricate, deeply personal lyrics.

Sumney’s music doesn't fit neatly into any specific genre, making it less accessible to mainstream audiences who might prefer more straightforward, radio-friendly tracks. His work blends elements of soul, electronic, indie, and experimental music, creating a sound that's unique but challenging for mass appeal.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/-Cq8zRq0G9I?feature=oembed

His music videos and live performances are visually stunning, often incorporating abstract and surreal elements that complement the emotional intensity of his music. He views his work as a holistic artistic expression, where visuals and sound are interconnected.

That's, why he is the ONE!

My vote goes to Permaband, a homebrewed band from CCP Games related to EVE Online. They might not be well-known outside of the EVE community, but their music has a special place for many fans.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/V117Ycxb6a0?feature=oembed

I know they're not performing at the moment, but I hope they make a comeback. Their songs are still in high demand and remain in my playlist. Last year, I met ex-CCP Guard, who shared his hopes for the potential future of this project.

Permaband for Eurovision 2025!

I wouldn’t call them abs but I would absolutely say that I was and I am a diehard fan right from the GG and the very beginning of their music career.

So this is a band called Marianas Trench who are a rock band - they are Canadian and they have a bit of a cult following in the UK - whenever they come here they tend to stick to really small intimate venues and they usually end up selling them out which is quite nice for them.

This band was absolutely massive at some point whether they’re from - they ended up winning quite a few awards back in Canada and were nominated for more, the lead singer is called Josh Ramsay and individually one of his most notable works was writing. Call me maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen.

So it’s really cool to interact with the band on social media because they are not massive anymore makes it really easy for them to interact with you and it’s sort of breaks a bit of a barrier between ultra fame where you try really hard to get noticed by the celebs that you like.

Musically the band really push boundaries and they create albums where they essentially masterpieces or something that could be played from the first song all the way to the end and if you listen to an entire album from start to finish it does feel like just one continuous song, which is absolutely amazing. They take a lot of inspiration and things that you would hear from like the goonies for example. I would definitely recommend that album Astoria, definitely definitely track these guys out you will not be disappointed.
