Hutton Orbital Truckers

I almost fell for this joke myself - and ended up becoming part of the Hutton Orbital Truckers community (which isn’t a bad thing). After digging into their history, I found that this group was established in September 2015, following the Hutton Mug Community Goal. This event was a developer response to a long-running player joke about Hutton Orbital, a station in the Alpha Centauri system requiring a 0.22 light-year supercruise (over 90 minutes in real-time) to reach. The myth? A free Anaconda awaited those who made the journey. Spoiler: it doesn’t.

Rather than avoiding the infamous trip, a group of players embraced it, forming the Hutton Orbital Truckers. Instead of frustration, they turned the journey into a tradition, organizing convoys and hauling massive shipments to the station. According to Inara, 3,198 Truckers have collectively hauled 2.7 million t of cargo to Hutton Orbital over the years.

Beyond trucking, the community is known for hosting charity events, supporting real-world causes, and fostering in-game camaraderie. They even run a 24/7 radio station - Truckers Radio, which you can check out here: HUTTON ORBITAL RADIO and podcasts The Hutton Orbital Media Collection

The Hutton Orbital Truckers are more than just a joke - they're a cultural phenomenon and a prime example of Elite Dangerous' sandbox nature, where even the simplest idea (or in this case, a joke) can evolve into something incredible.

To me, one of the most impressive things players have done in very recent times in Elite Dangerous is assist other players with hauling for colonisation. I chose a system to colonise and didn't really read everything properly. Stupidly, I picked an Orbis station as my main starport and then started to realise the amount of commodities requiring to be hauled for it is just overwhelming for a single player like myself. I also hadn't realised there would be such a small timeframe to complete it all. Fortunately, help is available which I asked for on the official forum and on a discord server. My primary port was completed with just over a week to go, which is something I definitely could not have done all on my own. I'm thankful to those who were able to assist me and hope that I can be of assistance to others in the future in building their primary ports on time as well.

I'm surprised noone mentioned the Fuel Rats yet.
The Fuel Rats is a group of dedicated players who assist other commanders that ran out of fuel while exploring or traveling in the galaxy. Their primary goal is to prevent commanders from being stranded in the middle of nowhere without fuel.
Over the years they have become one of the most iconic player made organization in ED. Personally I haven't got the chance to get their help yet (because I'm too paranoid with my fuel when going around xD) but one of my friend had them helped him on his way out of the bubble and according to him it was one of the best moment he had in the game.

The Blockade of HIP 22460

This was a successful player community event that was a final strike at the only system that had Thargoid presence close to the bubble after the end of the second war. And by that the Anti-xeno groups of players organised a blockade with the intention to cease the Thargoid activity in the system.

But this was a impossible task since there wasn't any oficial event of any feature in the game to make this possible, but this recent event was such an success that the Frontier Dev. itself make this an official event announcing it days before and one day after declaring a victory to the humanity. And this only shows how strong the Elite Dangerous communities can be, and the attention that Frontier gives to us, and every single month I see at least a great thing that some player or group of players have done, a real sandbox game!

Beside directly related to in-game community goals like the defense of Shinrarta Dezhra, and the Battle of Sol. I found out fan-made community's goals are very impressive.

From Distant World 1 & 2, to other organized-by-players expeditions, Hutton's Orbital Truckers' event 2hot2messy to deliver the Hutton's Mug to every station in the galaxy (which is still going on), to the community of Élite Dangereuse with their long list of sidequests/adventures that provide a new and flavorful way to play the game.

Such is a big and impressive game with one of the best communities out there! o7

I think the Most impressive Things that the Elite Players ever done is to Support the Project from the beginning.

Let me explain, bringing out a Space Simulator in the Time of Release of Elite Dangerous at 16.12.2014 (man im Old) and supporting the Project beforehand on Kickstarter showed that there some People out there that still love Space Action.

The whole Gaming Industry was to that time not really interested in making a Space Game. Space Games where Dead at this Moment.

Still have the Videos in my Eyes where the CEO of Frontier Developments David Braben Pressed the Red Button to Release it.

And to this Day this Game is one of my favourite Games of all Time aside from Metal Gear Solid.

One of the most useful 3rd party tools available for Elite Dangerous is EDCopilot, and one the most amazing things about it is it's the work of just one person - Cmdr Razzafrag.

Not only does it deliver a plethora of incredibly useful and enjoyable add-ons, Razzafrag also delivers first rate support through his discord channel.

I discovered it as a VR user frustrated at having to ditch the headset every time I needed to look something up on Inara ( which was a lot!)

What Razzafrag has managed to cram into this add-on is quite incredible, and I'm still discovering cool little features even after 6 months of use.

I don't want to get into describing all the features of EDCopilot, just go and have a look if you haven't already - there's going to be something there that you WILL find useful. Or funny - I still get a giggle from some of the things that EDie says (particularly with the profane filter off!) This little write up is to applaud the work Razzafrag has put into it and to celebrate his absolutely first rate add-on.

It integrates so well into the game I often forget that it's not a core part of it. There's been a couple of times Ive played without it and Elite feels pretty devoid of life without the background chatter and pithy commentary.

So thank you Razzafrag for making a game I enjoy so much better! What he has achieved is truly impressive.

For me one of the greatest achievements is success of the the largest Fuel Rats rescue mission, continuing their topic, called Beyond the Dark Edge. I have learned first about Elite when one of the YouTube channels made a video completely focused on Fuel Rats and their rescue mission and thanks to that video I got really interested into Elite Dangerous for the first time.

Beyond the Dark Edge was a rescue mission that took over a month to complete. It all started with Cmdr. Persera trying to break the record of travelling the furthest distance from Sol ever. But she miscalculated the fuel reserves and didn't had enough fuel to go back to the nearest system. So the Fuel Rats were called and... they agreed to help.

The operation was successful and just the fact that the Fuel Rats members decided to spend hours each day for over a month just to rescue Cmdr. Persera shows how great this community really is ❤️

I think one of the greatest things that Elite Dangerous Commanders have done is share their knowledge about the various activities you can do in the galaxy. I have always been impressed by the detailed tutorials on how to farm engineering materials, where to find stuff, how to farm guardian sites, and how to grind federal and empire ranks.

I'm an old player, so some examples can be a little outdated. But they have helped me a lot. A long time ago, I did the grind for Federation and Empire ranks. I was grinding Fed ranks in Sothis/Ceos until I found this guy channel named Down to Earth Astronomy and became impressed about the easier ways to grind rank in other systems.

Sothis/Ceos was a good strategy, but sometimes the courier deliveries would send you to the far Sothis station. So I was really impressed about their strategy at the time.

Thanks to his knowledge, I was able to finish my grind into the Corvette and the Cutter easily. But as a DiamondBack pilot, I never used the Corvette or the Cutter so much 😅😅

And after, I went into Guardian farming for FSD boosters and weapon blueprints. I have tried to do it on my own, but I couldn't understand what to do on those guardian sites. Again, their guides where really detailed.

It is crystal clear to me that without people like this guy and others, maybe some of the Elite Dangerous players could not have reached so far. I mean, sometimes things about the game are not so clear, and having people to explain with such level of detail is really impressive.

Even Frontier may be happy that there are people doing what they do so others can enjoy the game with ease.

Thanks Doc, could you give us a few examples to bolster your entry? o7

Sure. I have added examples and explained why I think this is impressive.

Ok, I feel I talk too much about myself in some submissions.
I started Streeming Elite dangerous in 2016 in Spanish, there were no guides, no tutorials no info at all.
Well, and you all know people say Elite has a hard learning curve.
I played more than 26k hours in streaming answering questions, helping people and did, and well I keep doing, more than 300 tutorials in Spanish.
Mechanics, ship builds, test, configs, anything people ask me I try to turn it in a friendly tutorial to make the game accessible to a lot of different people.
Fly safe if you can o7

I added my playlist for tutorials… actually 380, kids grow so fast.

You deserve it. 300+ tutorials are a lot done for the community. Congratulations Commander!

Deep Space Support Array (DSSA)

A network of Deep Space Fleet Carriers at your service!

The DSSA is a project to deploy a network of support Carriers all over the galaxy to help explorers in their deep space travels.

Currently there are about 100 individual or organisational carriers offering repair services, Universal Cartographics, refuel, shipyard, Vista Genomic, tritium, etc.

We need to be aware of what this means; dozens of Commanders supporting thousands of explorer players by selflessly lending their Fleet Carriers 24x7 just to help others and create lore and gameplay in Elite Dangerous.

Without a doubt these community initiatives are what make this game truly great.

Hello Commanders

For me one of the greatest achievements that the players have achieved is the creation of the Inara site.

For those of you who don't know, Inara is an essential platform for Elite Dangerous commanders, offering a wide range of tools and resources to make the lives of players easier.

Inara is not an official product of Frontier Developments. It is a platform created and maintained by players for players, which shows the incredible level of dedication and passion of the community.

Whenever I open the game, I also open the Inara site because it makes in-game tasks easier (locating a certain station or planet or system or commander, where to buy a certain product or module or ship, etc.) and it also keeps the community informed with the latest news and updates in the game, ensuring that everyone is up to date with important developments and changes.

I think it is a great achievement that the players have made this site.

Greetings pilots

Even though I'm a bit of an newcomer , I was able to catch one impressive event, namely the battle for the solar system.

To me this is the most impressive event in recent times, because on the evacuation, as well as the repulsion of the solar system joined a lot of pilots, both newcomers and old timers, there were even those who decided to return from wandering to distant worlds for the sake of such an event, each of the pilots contributed to the defense of the cradle of humanity. Preventing defeat by the Targoids and leaving their mark on history.

For me it has to be the search for the Lost Green Gas giant of Kelly Eldridge.

On May 23, 3301, CMDR Kelly Eldridge, who had been exploring deep in the black, took the following photo of what she described as "the strangest gas giant I've seen so far.".

Unfortunately they didnt record the location and it had never been relocated. Until seven years later the IEA Independent Explorers Association launched an expedition to locate it drawing in a large number of commanders armed only with a screenshot and some clues in the form of forum posts found using the wayback machine.

With a vague idea of location spanning many thousands of light years the commanders myself included tried to home in on the location by orioenting the stars to match the only surviving image which fortunately included the magellanic clouds

7 years after the initial discovery cmdr Orange! Found it after a month lonng search.

It's rather the most recent major event with I think atleast 2/3 of players taking part in, the Battle of Sol which started with the appearance of the titan Cocijo in the system and lasted a week and ended with the defeat of the Thargoids. Players very quickly began to recover lost systems around Sol, and despite difficult times, the final bombardment of the Titan began. Currently, only its remains can be found, no different from the rest.

I have to mention the Fuel Rats player group. It's truly amazing how the player base comes together to support each other in game. I've never personally had to use their services (yet) but have read many successful refueling stories from other players.

There's a few videos on YT detailing the life of a Fuel Rat, the process involved, the on-boarding, website support and service.. very interesting and just a remarkable gift the community offers. And they do it all without asking for anything in return, amazing! They definitely need more mentions.

Alex Sinclair's avatar

Thanks for entering Osiliran, but we've already awarded a couple of submissions about the Fuel Rats. Feel free to edit and re-enter! o7

Okay, this ought to be one of the ENOURMOUS fleets travelling all the way to the other side of the galaxy/to the core way back. I wish I could've been a part of it, especially the first ones..

Also, the fuel rats! A perfect example of how community can bunch together and make something really amazing. I still remember watching the videos of Fuel Rats doing their job, beautiful stuff!

Alex Sinclair's avatar

Hey Duraj, we'll need some more information and detail if we're going to award a prize on this one. A couple of people have submitted the fuel rats already, so I recommend you tell us more about these grand expeditions: what makes them so special and impressive? how many players took part? etc.

Eralm_237's avatar

The most impressive thing I have ever seen done in the game has to be CMDR Yerisan's no-HUD Hydra solo. As far as I'm aware, this is the only known instance of it being successfully done - on YouTube, Twitch, etc. - and the successful attempt was done live on Twitch as part of a charity campaign.
