Unresolved plot points in films and TV shows is a huge bug bear for many viewers, as the main story moves on but the audience is left dwelling on something that seemingly never got concluded.
We want to know which unresolved plot point you want to see tied up! Try to avoid any major spoilers (use the spoiler box if it's unavoidable) if your nomination is something currently airing or a recent release, but otherwise just tell us what the plot point is, why you want to see it resolved, and any theories if you have them.

The Expanse TV show was one of my favorite in years till it was cancelled by Amazon in 2021, they ended with Season 6, leaving a lot of us without answers.
What was the point to introduce them to never finish their plot.
Catelyn Stark from Game of Thrones as Lady Stoneheart.
"She wants her son alive, or the men who killed him dead. She wants to feed the crows, like they did at the Red Wedding. Freys and Boltons, aye. We'll give her those, as many as she likes. All she asks from you is Jaime Lannister."
She is a revived Lady Catelyn Stark (néeTully), possessing none of the empathetic or forgiving qualities Catelyn Stark had in her first life. Because Catelyn's throat was brutally slit when she was murdered, Lady Stoneheart can barely speak. She is merciless in her quest for revenge, slaughtering anybody who has any association with those who were responsible for the "Red Wedding," in which she and her son Robb were betrayed and murdered. She can be considered the archenemy of Jaime Lannister.

This series has the most roundabout plot - it's almost an ouroboros of plot points and situations. Whether out of fan service or lack of creativity, it's really depressing to see Ash go through the same battles against Evil only to wind up flung into the future without a clear ending. It happened in Army of Darkness and again in Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3.
ED fans got some more movies but some cameos and hints of Ash but nothing with a satisfying conclusion. Maybe it is a central theme of Ash not being able to correct his past mistakes and thus doomed to repeat them, but I do think fans deserve to see Ash either triumph completely over Evil or succumb to the Deadites and Evil Dead
It's an obvious one, but The Sopranos! I know there have been plenty of theories and assumptions about what happened, but I just need the definitive closure.
Naturally, without Gandolfini, it would never happen, but I would have loved for a one-off episode or mini-series to just conclusively wrap everything up and let the viewers know what happened next.
Ok for me it has to be from my favourite TV series Chuck, the ending was left wide open that to this day the main actor zachery levi wanta to make a movie to expand and go further with the story for chuck and sarah. The only thing we know is chuck gets the intersect back, but we dont know what happens to chuck and sarahs relationship. Then theirs colonel casey and his love affair with the woman that almost killed him (eventa before the series start) then theirs morgan who had soo much character development. These are just some of the questipns i have about the ending of Chuck
Anne with an E was canceled by Netflix on November 24, 2019, which left many fans disappointed.
Anne and Gilbert: After a lot of tension and misunderstandings throughout the season, Anne and Gilbert finally confess their love for each other. Gilbert writes a letter expressing his feelings, and when Anne receives it, she realizes she feels the same way. The season ends with an emotional kiss between them.
Anne discovers her past: Anne finds some clues about her biological parents and decides to keep investigating. At the end of the season, she heads to Queen's University, where she'll continue her education and explore more about her roots.
Marilla and Matthew: Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert show their unconditional support for Anne as she prepares to leave Green Gables and start her new life at university. It's a bittersweet moment because Anne is leaving home, but it's also a sign of her growth and maturity.
Ka'kwet: The story of Ka'kwet, a young Mi'kmaq girl taken to a residential school, doesn't get a clear resolution. Her family keeps fighting to bring her back, but the season leaves this plot open, highlighting the harsh reality of those institutions.
Hi therealme_lissa - thanks for entering this bounty. Just letting you know that we're rejecting your submission because it shows signs of having been produced by generative AI. Our goal with Just About is to reward authentic, human content and to do so in a way that respects the effort taken to produce it. Almost all low-effort use of generative AI in bounties will therefore be rejected and may be considered a violation of our code of conduct, with appropriate penalties for repeat offenders. Please read that code of conduct and our policy on AI content. Thanks!
That’s okay, in this case I used to organize my idea and translations purposes, because English is not my first language. But it was my opinion, thanks for letting know ☺️
Hi therealme_lissa, thanks for explaining. We understand using AI tools to assist with a language barrier can be helpful, but it can pose a problem for us as we have no way of knowing how much of your submission was your input and how much was generated by AI.
Other members have got around this by pasting their initial AI prompt in a spoiler tag at the bottom of their submissions. Alternatively, you could use a non-AI translation tool such as Google Translate, and adding a note to your submission explaining that's what you've done, so we're aware it isn't AI-generated. Thanks! ✌
This one is technically two different unresolved plot points but I think it can be counted as one because it's part of the same universe. Of course I'm talking about Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe.
The monoliths in 2001: A Space Odyssey gives us a lot of questions. The movie already show us some answers but they are very vague and see more answers "how they were made?", "By who?" and "why to spread it in our solar system?" are trivial questions for this black plain stone.
The Acolyte recently was cancelled and I really wanted to see what ways the new sith related to plaguies (don't know how to spell his name). Introducing him to canon was so hype for me and now because the show isn't getting a season 2 we aren't getting that chance anymore unless they make another project.
There are so many intriguing unresolved plot points out there! One that stands out is the mystery behind the final scene of Lost. The show’s ending left a lot of questions about the nature of the afterlife and the significance of the characters' journeys. I’d love to see a deeper exploration or even a spin-off that provides more clarity on how the afterlife and the characters' stories intertwine.
One I wanted to be resolved is the encounter between Black Adam and Superman at the end of the Black Adam Movie. All the hype that was created only for the franchise to die a few years after that?
One unresolved plot point that still drives me crazy is from Inception. At the end, Cobb finally gets back to his kids, but then we see his spinning top, the totem he uses to figure out if he's dreaming or not. The problem is, just as we’re about to see if it falls or keeps spinning, the screen cuts to black! We’re left wondering if Cobb is still stuck in a dream or if he’s actually awake.
Because the series got cancelled, they had to change the ending. According to the original plan, it would have been Dr Rush staying awake while everyone else gets hibernated to save resources.
I would love to see the original plot continued, and mostly because the last thing Dr Rush did was to move the consciousness of his colleague (and love interest) into the ship's computer. I think he had a plan how to get the ship to follow his commands instead of the commands they received from Earth.
I just really want to know if the guy who went in to the Hex in Wandavision and became the beekeeper is okay. He was such an iconic ending for one of the earlier episodes and I just expected to find out where he ended up if I’m honest. Please fill me in if I missed something…
For me, I have a few questions around one of my favourite shows that I feel could still be revisited in future plots... Doctor Who!
One of the older ones is who the mysterious woman was in "The End of Time", David Tennant's final episode as the Tenth Doctor, because she seemed to be important and she was with the Timelords, which makes me feel like she was important to the Doctor.
Some people have said she could be his mother and they explored the idea of the Doctor's mother with Tecteun in Jodie Whittaker's era, but I don't think this woman is her. WHO is she?
Moving on a little further, we had Michelle Gomez take on the iconic role of Missy, the Master in female form, who went on a journey of change, becoming more of a friend to the Twelfth Doctor and eventually choosing to side with him in "The Doctor Falls".
Sadly, she doesn't regenerate and then the Master later makes an explosive return played by Sacha Dhawan, but the character change from Missy to his Master is like night and day.
While they've kind of explored it in the audio books, there's still mystery around who came first and what the timeline is for the Master before, between and after these two incarnations and I'd love to see both actors return to the role in the future!
One of the more recent plot points that became both creepy and even more confusing is the woman in the distance in "73 Yards", who we later learn the identity of in the final moments of the episode. It still doesn't explain what on earth she was saying or what made her scare away so many people who went to try and talk to her.
It could still be explored in the future as some of the characters will be back in future episodes or spin-offs, but it might just make it even better that we have no idea what the woman was saying. It's just creepy to me that whatever the woman was saying made Ruby's friends and family run away in horror!
Thanks to the most recent finale bringing back Gabriel Woolf as Sutekh, having previously voiced the Beast in "The Satan Pit", there's nothing to say the two can't be linked in some way, and it only adds to the rich lore of Doctor Who, a show that loves to revisit past plot points and tell new stories with them.
Since “Lost” aired in September of 2004, I became a huge fan, in my country Dominican Republic, the series used to aired all Sundays at 9:00pm in Telesistema, chanel 11, so in all the series there’s something that’s been bodering me and is the mysterious “mother”. If you are a “Lost” fan, you know that through the series, spoiler alert! They explained us the story of Jacob and the man in black, how they were raised by a mysterious woman who killed their biological mother and protected the island. However, they never explained clearly who she was, why she was so powerful or how she come to be on the island.
Her role in the island feels crucial, yet her backstory is never fully explained, I mean, what made her so special that she could pass the role of protector to Jacob? Like come on people, what happened to the island before her arrival and how the heck she knew about the island in the first place? This character is really enigmatic in the series and I honestly think that something that unravelling that would have added more depth to the story.
Whilst this tv show was met with both derision and contempt from some people for a lack of CGI, I personally really enjoyed the show and just as he becomes the true alpha, the show ends and was cancelled, it always really bothered me because I thought it had so much potential to go much further than they let it go.
I don't like it when Tv shows end and don't give us the send-off we need!
Seeing Threshold be cancelled before it's first season could even finish was pretty sad. It's ratings plummeted in the US after a change to its airing days and classes with other big shows.
For those who haven't seen it, it revolves around a ship crew being exposed to a signal sent from an unknown world. This signal infects the crew members and mutated their genes, causing impressive feats of strength, leaving a hover meant team the task of rounding up the crew members before the spread the infection.
I personally found it to be a great take on the Sci Fi genre and had plenty of potential to build over future seasons, as more of the original infectees spread the virus to communities.
The last aired episode ended up being a slap dash alternative ending to the one that had actually been planned, and massively let down the show. It would be amazing to see this get the TV run it deserves and span out the full story planned by the creators!
I think any thing from David Lynch would fit in here but I will talk about Mulholland Drive. I already see a lot of things about it and attempts to explain the movie but I or isn't enough to really explain or sometimes doesn't feel right the explanation. And the main thing about the movie and could be a mistake ask for this, is to know what is the blue box with a key, you kind have some ideas but there isn't any real explanation or revelation about it, why it exists if it really exists.
As many of you already know, I’m a huge fan of the Blade Runner universe, and the ending of Blade Runner 2049 has left me with questions that have been itching at me ever since.
I’m glad to see so many sci-fi titles here! I’ll drop one more- Firefly, the TV show that was cancelled in 2002.
There are plenty of theories about why this happened, but even after more than 20 years, there’s still a strong fanbase waiting for the story to continue, so not just plot, the whole show is unresolved.
But if we are talking about plots, the biggest unresolved points are around River Tam’s powers and the true intentions of the Alliance. The show hinted many variations, especially concerning the characters’ backstories and their potential future journeys, but ...
