SMITE 2

SMITE 2
S

After being a concurrent player of smite 1 since 2014 having played over 5000 hours, I can say that smite 2 is a worthy successor.

At first it had a very questionable alpha launch with many bugs, very few gods and gameplay that didn't feel as good as the first one, but after the latest updates, especially the free to play update, the story is very different now.

First, the improvement in the graphics engine, changing to UE5 from UE3 not only makes the game look better, but also makes life much easier for developers when it comes to releasing better and faster updates. It currently has 45 gods, which without being the 100+ gods of Smite 1, is still a good amount to start an open beta with some of the most beloved gods from the first game.

Other important changes in this new version are the addition of god aspects, which are a way to vary the way a god plays by changing one or more abilities. In general the gameplay feels much more fluid, and adding mechanics such as being able to use active items at the same time as the abilities of the gods or the addition of the bushes on the map makes the entire game feel like a better version of the first.

Seeing the path that Smite 2 has taken since its closed alpha only makes me excited to think about what may be coming in the next few months with the following updates adding more gods and mechanics that can make the game fun for many years to come.

L

SMITE 2 is a mixed bag to me right now, but it is at least going down the right path in many ways.

First with some big improvements is the premier mode, Conquest. The expansion of the map combined with a massive overhaul to jungle camp tankiness has breathed new life into the game, making it feel so different to play as and around junglers. No longer is the jungle just trivially weak fodder for a mid or side laner to insta-clear, junglers actually have to be in charge of these tankier camps and worry about ganking less repeatedly. Laners have bought jungle starters too much in response to this, but said starters are wisely being balanced out with reduced lane minion damage.

Aspects are a VERY interesting concept that make SMITE 2 stand out as a sequel. With time they will be balanced out, but the creativity is on full display. From becoming an AOE protector as Bellona, to an all-in jungler as Cernunnos or Athena, the possibilities and interactions have increased so much. Super fun.

I do still have some gripes. I thought stability was improving as I stopped getting any crashes for a while, but in the past couple months they've been happening again.

Item variety is gradually improving, but the options are still dreadful for starter upgrades. They are one of the best things about SMITE 1, so I hope more are brought in asap.

Some god's ported over to SMITE 2 feel like they were given straight downgrades here and there. Just to name a few, Ares ult was robbed of its ability to tp/pull enemies while stunning, and is now trivial to counter with any displacement immunity. Other abilities just have this new jankiness to them, like Loki ult or Pele dash/knockup. Alas, I still find myself wanting to play some gods on SMITE 1 instead.

SMITE 2 has a promising future ahead with its ambitious changes and ideas, so long as it keeps improving optimization and bringing in/adding upon great things from SMITE 1.

K

Since there are only a few characters in SMITE 2, 45 in total, it is easier for new players to start in this new game, since they do not have to learn all the gods that are in the first SMITE, like 120 or more. With the automatic item purchase, it is easier at the beginning of the game, you do not have to worry about the items you buy, later when you know how to play you will know better what build to make. It is quite nice for new players but it is not easy to master the game, which makes it interesting.
I encourage everyone to try it, especially with friends, it can be much more fun. Learning together is always fun, and this game also rewards aim because you can miss basic attacks as well as dodge them if you are skilled enough.
In SMITE 2 there are bushes that make you enter stealth, which was not the case in the first SMITE, which gives it a different point of view and possibilities for totally different plays. There is good feedback in most of the games you play, and that makes it quite enjoyable when playing this video game.

O

Smite 2 while still in its Beta state has so far taken a huge step in the right direction. Compared to Smite 1 and the early days of the Smite 2 alpha, the game has never felt better or played as smoothly. Having gods divided up into what role they best fit in a team composition rather than having them restricted to roles such as guardian and assassin in the past, has allowed new and returning players to pick a more balanced team comp with ease and having gods fit into multiple roles shows their versatility much more than Smite 1 ever did. The addition of aspects has allowed players to reinvent the ways they play some of their favorite gods to better fit a new role and playstyle. Adding additional game modes like assault and joust allows players who don't want to only play conquest to be able to participate in this new game has been another great decision by the development team. With many more gods being added to the game each month, and the player count steadily climbing, Smite 2 is in an exciting place that felt impossible with Smite 1 and it feels like it can only go up from here. If you haven't already, download Smite 2 and give it a try, you'll be sure to love it!

Smite 2 is a game I was extremely hyped for when it was announced to be in development. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and try out the new stuff. Come the alpha tests and it wasn't looking so good, it was very "janky" and unenjoyable to play. As time went on, even content creators were losing hope. Hi-Rez recognized this and began to really focus and improve the game as much as they can. Now, Smite 2's current state is almost better than Smite 1.

Firstly, the gameplay in Smite 2 feels SO much better. It's more fluid and "smooth". When you cast, for instance Ra's ultimate, you can really feel the "oomph" of vaporizing another god with the raw power of the sun. It just hits different in Smite 2.

The new items introduced, as well as old items returning make for a unique building experience in Smite 2. I especially love the addition of active items such as Screeching Gargoyle and Circe's Hexstone. These items can make almost any god have a way to "peel" for their team.

Aspects are a recent addition, and I just absolutely love the potential of them. Turning a long- ranged hunter (Cernunnos) into a melee monster is extremely unique and exciting. The more that aspects resemble Cernunnos's, the more excited I will be. Brilliant idea from Hi-Rez.

Overall, I feel Smite 2 is on its way of becoming a huge success. The game looks amazing, feels much better than the predecessor and has better variety in items. The potential is huge for Smite 2 and I can't wait to see Hi-Rez realize it.

K

I started playing smite 2 at the beginning of the alpha weekend by purchasing access.

1. The differences from the first part are quite large, despite the fact that the gods are the same, the skills and some things are the same. But the new core and the variability of assemblies have greatly improved the experience in the game. There are more opportunities for each character, the ability to play as anyone anywhere.

2. In general, all the functionality that was and already is completely satisfied with me, but I would like the ability to press any button to rotate the camera to inspect my god in a new skin. There is not enough viewing of assemblies in the history of games. Return the function of triggering a skill when pressing CTRL, as it was in the first smite when pressing the letter K.

3. Performance and optimization during the alpha sometimes changed, sometimes it was better, sometimes it fell. After the patch in the open beta, I can comfortably play on settings above average, despite the fact that my video card is quite old, which made me very happy.

I really love Smite 2 and I hope we will see many more interesting gods and innovations.

Smite 2: A True Sequel

As a veteran Smite player since 2012, I can confidently say that Smite 2 is a true sequel to its predecessor. Powered by a new engine, it boasts improved graphics while retaining the beloved art style.

Key Improvements:

* God Overhaul: Every god has received updates to their kits, designs, and more.

* Item System: New items have been introduced, and existing ones have been improved based on community feedback.

* Build Flexibility: The most significant change is the removal of limitations on item builds. Players can now equip any item on any god, regardless of their traditional role. This fosters creativity and experimentation.

* Map Updates: The jungle has been redesigned with fewer obstructing walls, allowing for smoother movement and better navigation. New XP camps in side lanes offer additional farming opportunities.

Initial Impressions and Developer Response:

While initially skeptical during the alpha stages, I'm now thoroughly impressed with the developers' dedication to community feedback. They've consistently addressed concerns and implemented significant improvements, resulting in a truly enjoyable and engaging gameplay experience.

Recommendation:

I highly recommend Smite 2 to any fan of MOBAs. Its innovative features, improved gameplay, and commitment to player satisfaction make it a worthy successor to the original.

Key Changes Summarized:

* New Engine & Graphics

* God Kit & Design Updates

* Revamped Item System

* Flexible Item Builds

* Updated Jungle & XP Camps

Smite 2 is so much prettier than smite and the new items and reworked gods are great fun. I am loving joust and duel aswell as rank conquest after two hundred hours i would recommend this over smite 1 and league. The most enjoyable moba thats currently available. Ullr is a little over powered right now but not for long so if you enjoy playing ability damage adc this is the game for you. Hi rez is doing there best to get all the smite gods and modes into smite 2 and ballacing and patching bugs very quickly. I would reccomend buying the founders edition so you can get lots of currency in game for leveling and unlock the mastery passes for your favorite chatacters. Everything about Smite 2 is better than the first besides there not being very many cosmetics yet but they will come out soon enough. Very enjoyable experience so far everyone should play.

W

I played smite 2 since the first alpha weekend and it has honestly came a long way. During the first weekends I thought it just might be a complete bust but once they started releasing the new map looks. The more characters and content we were asking and wanting for. The game now feels amazing. The characters now have a new yet familiar feel to all of them. For example anubis. Anubis still has his same kit except with the added burst of damage on his ult and new passive which gave him that much needed update to keep him fresh. There are still some things I wanna see added but I know they will be added. Like the ability to save premade builds or for consoles to see the custom messages but overall the game is amazing. Its hands down my number 1 moba rn I could never go back to league or smite now. I am excited to see where smite 2 goes and where they are going to take it from here.

SMITE 2 is better than SMITE whatever some people thinks. And no guys, SMITE 2 isn't bad just because you don't have your T5 skins and all other skins on the game 👀

But it's true, SMITE 2 isn't perfect but I ask you : Honestly, SMITE is perfect ?
So, it's time to give some ARGUMENTS to prove than SMITE 2 > SMITE :
- The easy one : GRAPHISMS
- The welcome one : REPLAYABILITY
- The one we needed : QUALITIES OF LIFE
- The one we hope : NEWS & SURPRISES

Graphically, SMITE 2 is more handsome than SMITE, the characters are more beautiful than ever like the poisonous Medusa, the rocky Geb or my favorite coffins killer (Baron Samedi). The shining green from Medusa, the lightning thunders of Zeus or the flamboyant red from Kukulkan dives us in a divine immersiveness ! We play gods and we see it !

I hope theses images convince you, but the only thing I can say it's PLAY SMITE 2! And you will see yourself where the game is more beautiful, it's difficult to prove it by putting some images...
If we can say something about the design of some divinities, take the pleasure of walking across the jungle to say "hello !" to the Fire Giant or Gold Fury and appreciate the beauty of this map Conquest (or the Joust map who is stunning and well impregnate of Arthurian mythology).
Well, nothing to say about the artworks about spells, items and consumables, they are way better designed than on SMITE (we are far away from Bake Kujira 😂).

Theses artworks are modernized and more colorful than ever!
For the second argument, I need to explain myself. Here, I would like to highlight the new system to make builds with the news stats like intelligence and strengh. This new system offers to us the capacity to build what we want, to play like we want but I know, we need to dive into this system to know him and take the capacity to build (this capacity isn't offer to debutants but with some training it's possible !). That's just amazing to build what WE want without restrictions like Ymir CRITS...
And thanks to developers to offer hybrid scaling to us on different gods like Medusa, Cupid or Aladdin (and many others), the hybrid scaling helps us bring our craziest builds to life !

The third highlights the developers works about quality of life changes. In SMITE, we have so many spells who are difficult or frustrating to use like the famous rocket of Danzaburou or the Neith's backflip. In SMITE 2, theses spells are way better to use, we can backflip above walls, or 360° with the Danza's rocket, that's help to play the game, and this characters specially. Our life is safe with theses changes, thanks to developers, continue like this! #NoFrustratingSpells
For me, an other quality of life change is the launch of the game who is way better in SMITE 2 :
I take like 15/20s to start the game where, in SMITE, I can take 45s/50s. Same remark for the return in game (when you crash, for example, and you want to comeback), in SMITE, you're bored for long seconds where, in SMITE 2, you don't have time to complain that you're back in-game ! And, personally, that change (that optimisation ?) helps me to tell myself "I want to play SMITE 2".

And, to finish, the future is on SMITE 2, all the news (like new mechanic like the fabulous "Aspects" or new gods) are on SMITE 2 and I hope I will be surprise like I was when I saw for the first time the aspect of Geb or the god reveal of Aladdin. Two days before the roadmap of SMITE 2 in 2025, I'm just too hype for this new year and I hope so many other years with SMITE 2 !

But, I want to add, if you feel that the game miss something or if the game isn't at the level of SMITE, I want to say : It's logic, the game ISN'T FINISH, he's in beta and just look the differences between SMITE 2 Alpha and SMITE 2 Beta, we've got so many changes in few months, so just imagine what the game can become if we give it time to evolve!
So, YES, SMITE 2 isn't perfect like SMITE but let him the time to prove yourself he's better than SMITE, see you when the game is no longer in beta and it's officially released!

PS : Sorry for the bad syntax and spelling... I'm French... I hope you understand something 🤣

I think smite 2 is great at the moment. During the closed alpha I thought it needed a lot of work but it has vastly improved. I am loving Medusa and the new joust map. My friends that weren’t big on OG smite are also having a blast on smite 2. I am having fun learning all the new items in the store and the aspects seem really cool as well. I can’t wait for them to add Charybdis as she is my favorite god. I do not enjoy the teleported in the conquest map between the side lanes, it feels like every time I get ahead I have a solo laner teleporting and dunking on my head. I also enjoy the updated looks on some of the gods such as Hercules. I have not tried assault or duel but im sure they are great as well. I can not wait for ranked joust to be added

J

I have to say that Smite 2 feels better than Smite 1 in every way. The gameplay is fun, the visuals are significantly better, and the items system has been completely revamped while still somewhat familiar for players with Smite 1 experience. I am aware people are frustrated with not all of their skins transferring over, but I truly believe that the improvents on literally everything make it more than worth it. The new Aspect system has my friends who are longtime Smite 1 players excited. My favorite so far is Khepri's Aspect. His lunge no longer pulls enemies back but instead Khepri lunges and attaches himself to an enemy and does consecutive basic attack damage while Khepri is attached. The other Aspects are interesting but not all of them would I consider worthwhile, but I am sure that someone somehwere likes an Aspect that I do not care for. Smite 2 is headed in the right direction and I can not wait to see what Hi-Rez has in store for us next.

RA

SMITE 2 had a very rough start, with an uninspired generic art style, janky mechanics, and a ton of bugs that made the game borderline unplayable. In he last few months the game has made a complete 180, and the game is genuinely enjoyable. It feels like a true sequel to it's predecessor, with unique mechanics such as Aspects, which completely set it apart from other MOBAS. It's also beginning to leverage its upgraded engine, with the newest addition to the roster, Aladdin introducing completely new mechanics such as wall running and his own personal pocket dimension in the form of his Magic Lamp. I've put in hundreds of hours into it already and I'm planning on putting in thousands in the future just like I did in SMITE. The game feels so much better with gameplay smooth as butter and beautiful graphics. There are some optimization issues with random frame drops and stutters, but the devs have been releasing DAILY updates that tackle optimization and bug fixes along with frequent balancing. The devs are also extremely transparent and even host "Titan Talks" 3 times a week where they discuss their future plans, balance, and even do QnA with viewers. Overall if you're a fan of SMITE, mythology, or even MOBA's in general I advise you do give this game a try, it's going free to play in THREE days!

Overall, I'm very excited to see where this game goes and I really hope it succeeds. I love this game, and I love the dev team. 9/10 overall rating.

Smite 2 NOW is different than it was even a week ago. This first half of the Open Beta Patch is a substantial step in the right direction. Next week we get Aladdin, Joust, Duel, and the game becomes F2P. With that being said Smite 2 is not just back it is better than its predecessor. The only thing Smite 1 has over Smite 2 is the selection in gods at this point.

New Features that make the game feel better:

Aspects- Subtle changes to the way you play gods are well thought out and designed across the board. I can think of one maybe two that are meh. This type of flexibility is really leading into play your favorite god in whatever role you want.

Game Modes- As of the 14th we will now have all the most requested game modes for Smite 2 outside of clash/siege/slash. I think that is perfectly fine as getting the other modes right is important. Assault is absolutely fantastic even though it doesn't have it's own new map. Conquest has been revamped and with the new jungle elements cooks. It shows the changes the devs are willing to make to get to a better product.

New & Returning Items- Simply a W.

Text Chat- Text communication is now available in the game!

Post Death information is now displayed in the game to show how you died. You can also get a lot more information when you hit T.

On of my Cons, which can be fixed in settings is the default change to buying relics. Before this patch it asked you what you wanted as soon as you got into a game, so the change is a bit rough when that is what you're used too.

Another Con is tanks just not being in the best spot at the moment. Finding a way to make the feel tanky and impactful is important. Ares is a good example of a god that should feel tanky, but with CC Buffering and the amount of Displacement Immunity he just feels bad.

We are on the way to a huge comeback for Smite 2 and I cannot wait to see it happen!

A

Honestly?
I love this game

Its now a Beta and i believe with that came a couple of buggs, however i truly believe that this game is soon to be better then Smite 1. I believe this because it feels in my opinion more smoothly in conquest. I love especially the beginning of the match when u need to be very fast with your buff (Duo) and then the race to get to the minions first.

I dont think that I like the new shop UI and I hope there will be a option to change it back to Smite 1 shop.

I am still having a little trouble finding out the builds that I like. Before the Beta it was a really standard build for all gods alike, however they added alot more items in the beta and that changes it all. I like looking into it tho.

I cant wait for Joust to be released. Its my favourite game mode.

Also I really hope that they are gonna do something active with clans. It used to be nice in 2015 on Smite 1 that u could get skins through the clan system, however they removed that and I hope that they are gonna add some really cool clan features and options to grind with all of your clan.

To sum it all up.

I think the game is definetly getting there. I like the gameplay and love the way the devs are adding stuff. Cant wait for more <3

Smite 2 Summary:

Positive Points: Performance has improved a lot since the closed alpha, with much more normalized fps, which is a very important point for the game. The gameplay is more fun and immersive, with improvements in relation to Smite 1, as you stay more entertained, such as changes in the gods and new characters. The new system is much easier to understand compared to the old one and brings more variety in the different builds, especially with active items that can be used in a very simple way. Visually, Smite 2 has evolved a lot, with improved textures, animations and fluidity, maintaining a mythological atmosphere that involves the entire game and creates a greater tradition for the player, personally I think it is much more than that of Smite 1. The combat dynamics have been reformulated to be more interesting and much more fun, it is almost a majority opinion, I include myself.

Negative points: Although it has evolved in many aspects, there is still room for more optimizations and basic improvements, especially for players with low-performance PCs. The lack of text chat makes it difficult to communicate with the team, as it forces the player to say things without details and other problems that this brings, and the voice chat is almost always bad. The division between Smite 1 and 2 results in matchmaking problems, with games with strange pairings. Some gods are very broken, especially with new abilities that focus on certain routes of the game. Balance will be crucial for a healthier game. Lag and occasional disconnections are still annoying.

Smite 2 is on a good path, competing head-to-head and surpassing Smite 1 in several aspects, such as performance, mechanics and graphics. Despite the problems with balance, stability and player base, the game has a great future for Smite lovers and offers a more fun and refined experience.

So Smite 2... Until now its going in a good way, of course with ups and downs like any game in alpha and beta would have.

The Alpha of Smite 2 already looks like a finished game, and maybe the name alpha refers to test phase only, and you can see that by the performance, the visuals and of course the gameplay. It do better everything compared to the predecessor. Remember if there are long wait time to find matches or bad balancing it reflects only the low player base yet since it wasn't fully released and this part can be and must be review the the games releases.

The first point I want to call out about this game is the system of functions for each gods, carry, support, solo, mid and jungle looks like any other MOBA that we know around there, but for me in Smite 2 it is a little hard to you have flexibility and that brings Pros and Cons, the god will have specific function and every team will know what to expect the actions from the players, this will be very glad for casual players like me, but it isn't the best thing in competitions but it will always be easy to balance what it is good for professional competitions too. So looking in the balance it is a good point, maybe could be revised, specially for supports that some times they have difficult to defend them selves because of their low attack and some times low speed.

For the number of gods still very low, and this is because to keep the balancing planing easy but this make the game very monotonous, now it is changing with the new arrivals but for the first months the game got boring real fast. In my opinion the release of new gods should be a little frequent, but not too frequent to give us bad balancing, if this is possible it would be very welcomed.

The conquest mode, compared from what it was in the first seasons of smite 1 is fantastic, it is a really improvement for jungle players and give us more exiting matches, where both teams must have a good strategy while travelling in the map and when each play must leve their lane to help another that is now a little distant. The map helps the game to be more engaging and fun and gives complexity that is always welcomed, form me this is the best point of the game so far.

But until now the game is evolving in a great way, but even without comparing with the first game, we have a long way to walk and maybe it should be a little faster, maybe it will mess a little with balancing but it will bring more player base, specially from the first game, to the Smite 2, and this will have good points, and maybe even help in the balancing of the gods, towers and minions, since the game will have more data to analyse and better overview of the meta gameplay.

Smite 2 is in a really good spot right now!

The Pro's:

  • Performance!
Performance is so much better than it was in the first few months of the closed alpha for Smite 2. I have much more stable FPS and I can stream on twitch while playing. I couldn't before, which was a reason for not switching to Smite 2.

  • Mechanics

The mechanics are so fun right now, it's like Smite 1 but better. I love the +1 changes to the gods, and I absolutely adore the new gods, Hecate and Mordred. I think Hecate has one of the best kits in smite history

  • Items

The new Item system is both fun and easy to understand, in my opinion. It brings more variety to builds. And I love the active items. I hope we see more interesting active items in the future

The Cons

  • Performance could be better

    • Like I said, the performance is miles ahead of what it was in Smite 2's first few months, but it could run better. Most games, I'm able to stream to both twitch and tiktok while playing the game on normal quality without lag. I can't do that just yet with smite 2. And for people who have lower end PC's, they're at more of a disadvantage.

  • No text chat

    • It's hard to interact with the team the way i want to because there's no text chat. Voice chat is great, but a lot of people have the loudest, crunchiest microphones, and don't know how to use push to talk. I think open mic should never ever be allowed in video games. We NEED push to talk because these ppl be watching family guy while we're trying to listen for call outs and stuff.

  • Low player base

The low player base that we have in Smite 1 and 2 right now, considering the playerbase is currently split, makes for bad matchmaking in both games. It's not very equal

Overall, I reccomend Smite 2, especially since they are giving away access codes via Twitch right now. It's essentially free to play, and I think more people should try it out, especially if you're a smite super fan

I

SMITE 2 if it continues on this path could be the comeback story of a century.

We all know the game was rough when it initially launched into the closed alpha weekend tests. It looked very 'default UE5'. The str/int system was less refined, there were a lot of 'gameplay feels' issues, the God roster was small and poorly chosen, among many other issues.

But in a few short months since then, the game has gotten 10x better with more Gods and better choices of Gods, a huge visual environment overhaul, the Ascension Pass system, 'gameplay feel' has seen massive improvements and there's plenty more on the horizon for the game as we approach January and the 50 gods target the devs have set for then.

Already the game is far more interesting than its predecessor, SMITE 1, and has a much more solid foundation both in terms of being built on a much more modern engine with a fresh code-base but also in the core mechanics of how the game works. Str vs Int and hybrid builds are super interesting, active items make builds more varied and gameplay more fun, the God changes that make them more dynamic have been mostly good.

So much has been achieved in just a few months since the initial alpha launched and if the game keeps improving at this pace, it will surpass SMITE 1 in every way probably less than a year from now and I think the future potential of the game if the devs can keep hitting with patches like they have been could be absolutely massive.

ROZEPOP's avatar

HEAVY on the "Default UE5" feel. IMO, the way they quickly turned around the art style to make it look more unique instead of just a game inside of unreal engine 5 should be emphasized and celebrated. The art team had to have been cooking. It was one of my biggest gripes, and they fixed it in a pretty good way, very quickly.

We have games like Predecessor who are kind of stuck in this UE5 art style, and it just doesn't feel like it has much personality because of that.

F

Smite 2 was given a short leash. Among layoffs, the ending of a mismanaged pro scene, and overall sentiment being in the toilet (see various doom and gloom videos about Smite 2); I would say a lot of that initial negativity is gone.

Today Smite 2 is remarkably different from where it was 2 months ago during CA1 week. As I look back at my older videos I remember the pain that were the early days. Odd build orders, scaling issues, straight up broken mechanics... all signs of a game in Closed Alpha. But we the community have been giving what Hi-Rez needed to bring the game to today... feedback.

Sometimes it feels like every time 1 bug is fixed 2, more spawn. (See the Steam page for all the hotfixes that happen after patch drops). Nevertheless, the game is WAY better than the start. Objectives have been tuned to not be overpowered to gain and underpowered to fight. The days of sub 20-minute ancient furies due to 3:30 Gold fury being killable by 3 people are over. There's less of a "oh this thing is broken" and now it's moving closer to a "skill issue" you're in your bracket kinda problem. But that will be fixed with time. As the player base hopefully grows in beta to full release, we'll have a bigger pool of players to grow the game in skill.

I'm gonna skip graphics. UE5 is awesome and I don't think we need to go over that.

The change where you can scale via Strength/Intelligence/Protections is the best change that could've been made and it fits well with giving players more options to build and more playstyles to experiment with. I'm glad you can build more items and synergize into a variety of effective builds. You really can't say this build is bad or "this person is trolling" as obviously as you would in Smite Classic.

The big improvement for me is the ability to counter in Smite 2. I'm hoping that as the game ages and more items come online there's a counter to every mechanic in the game so it really becomes a rock paper scissors style counterplay where having to cover all bases or anything in between is a viable option. Make the game so that players have to adapt to not just the playstyles of the opposing team but also little actives and items that make a team think differently about the game. The ones currently in the game are great but I'd like to see more.

Overall I think Smite 2 is a long way ahead of where Smite Classic was in the same lifespan of the game. If you haven't bought this game to be in the CA, you should I think this will be a far better and more fun/entertaining MOBA than its competitors. I've tried others and this one actually feels right and is downright enjoyable. Even with the problems it had early, I was willing to stick it out and I'm glad I did. Smite 2 is on the way to being a really, really good MOBA and a game you should have in your library.

N

Strengths:

  • Graphics and Engine Upgrades: Visually, SMITE 2 feels like a significant upgrade. Improved textures, smoother animations, and refined effects make the game look modern and immersive while preserving the mythological atmosphere. In my opinion, I think it's a big upgrade over Smite 1

  • Enhanced Mechanics: Adjustments in gameplay mechanics and updated abilities make combat more dynamic. Many gods feel fresh yet familiar, keeping the core experience while introducing exciting twists.

Problems:

  • Balancing Issues: Some gods seem overtuned, especially with new abilities that dominate certain lanes. Balance refinement will be crucial as more players join.

  • Server Stability: Lag and disconnects still interrupt gameplay. With player feedback, optimizations will be essential. In my case, I feel some lag compared to Smite 1.

Wish List for Full Release:

  • More Game Modes and Maps: Classic modes with refreshed maps would offer variety.

  • Progression System Updates: Enhanced rewards and a more personalized leveling system could deepen player engagement.

  • CrossPlay: CrossPlay is something that I find fundamental in Smite. There are some servers with few players and, especially in ranked, it is difficult to find a match. With crossplay I believe they could solve this problem.

Overall, SMITE 2 looks promising, especially for fans of the original game seeking both nostalgia and novelty. Balancing and server stability should be priorities before the official release, but the Alpha shows strong potential.

So far, I think Smite 2 is on the right track. Since the very first alpha test, there have been many improvements in the right direction. I'll start my review with things that I think Smite 2 does better.

First off, I think the improvements to the god's kits are great. They are porting a lot of gods from Smite 1 who's kits are outdated. When these gods were first released they were great. However, now with newer and more complicated gods to compete with, these older gods struggle. The Smite 2 team has done a great job updating these god's kits while maintaining their identity. These gods still feel like the gods you know and love, but a bit easier to play. I also find that the model updates they have made have been excellent. I like what they did with Nemesis. She still looks like Nemesis, but they fixed her design to make more sense than it did before (fishnets were not the choice in retrospect).

I think the new building system is much better than before. While more complicated at first glance, it is easy to pick up and offers more flexibility than Smite 1. You can still choose to stick to simple builds or even use the same builds you'd use in Smite 1. However, now you have more options for build pathways, allowing you to personalize your builds further. Especially for my mains, I like figuring out my builds for gods, so it's nice for that to be a bit easier now. The new scaling system is also excellent for the same reasons. You get a lot more options that weren't available before.

The last two good things I want to touch on is the changes to the conquest map and graphics. I think the new conquest map looks great and I like the new objectives. My only complaint is that there is no green buff for support and red buff is too far from mid. I think that support deserves to have a buff of its own. Support is already a role that many people don't like and not giving the role a buff is like adding insult to injury.

Also, the new graphics look great. A lot of the graphics for the abilities are a lot clearer than the ones in Smite 1, both the ability icons and the way hitboxes are shown before you channel an ability look a lot cleaner.

There's really only two things I don't like about Smite 2 currently: the way damage feels and matchmaking.

The way damage and defense feel is a bit off from Smite 1. For starters, as a tank, in the late game you don't feel tanky. Normally if I engage in a fight and want to back out safely, as long as I keep my dash up, I can do so easily in Smite 1. In Smite 2 however, I get deleted within a handful of seconds. While I agree that squishies should die relatively fast to teach them good positioning, as a tank player it's hard for me to dive the enemy team if I get deleted before my team can follow up. Along with that, I find everyone does a lot more damage than they do in Smite 1. Tanks in general take chunks of squishies' health while being comparatively hard to kill. When I play solo, if I play right, I can 2v1 into squishies and win by having similar damage output and being just a tad tankier than they are. I think the way damage and defense feel should be brought back to match Smite 1's a bit more.

This is just a minor criticism in comparison, but matchmaking is a bit rough. I regularly get teammates who don't understand how the game works, while the enemy team is competent. It's rough because I'll be doing fine, but my team isn't and I can't do enough to help them. While I know part of this is due to the lower player base since it's an alpha, I think matchmaking has something to do with this. I say this because I had better luck with matchmaking when there was none at all in earlier tests.

Overall, I think the game is in the right direction. Something I would like to see that I don't believe is in the plans to come is win/loss screens for the gods and death animations. I remember the dev team saying that they didn't want to bring the win/loss screens back since people didn't look at them, but I think they add a lot of character to the gods. Sure you get used to them over time, but when you see one you haven't seen before, they are very entertaining and add more soul to the game. Also, I find that the current explosion they use for deaths is visually harder for me to track. It's easier for me to tell that I've died when I see the animation and it adds character to the game. But those are just two nitpicks.

D

I am really enjoying Smite 2, I haven’t played Smite 1 since it was announced and I feel smite 2 since CA4 has been in a good enough spot that I am coming home and playing it every day. Except when my internet is being terrible then it’s extremely rough and I have to find anything else to do. They just added Khepri Nemesis and izanami into the game and I’ve been having a blast. Can’t wait to see what changes they make to the new gods coming up! I think the F2P release will really bring back a decent chunk of the player base. They can’t slow down too much with the gods after tho. If they slow down too much it’s going to fall off quickly, at least 1 god every 2 weeks. I know it’s not exactly game related but their titan talks have been enjoyable and insightful.

Hey dented, thanks for entering this bounty. In order to reward you however, we're looking for a little more detail about the current state of SMITE 2, rather than talking about the future. Could you edit your submission to expand a little on some of those thoughts? Here are a few things you could consider when adding to it:

  • Do you feel the game is well balanced?

  • What are your thoughts on some of the minor kit redesigns and ability changes?

  • How does the new player experience fare?

  • Are there enough modes and variety?

  • How does it compare to SMITE 1?

AbyKwon117's avatar

Personally, I loved how Smite 2 works and how the effects of the characters are seen with their abilities, etc. What I must accept is that the store is a bit confusing, I spend a lot of time searching and seeing the items in the base ( logical because everything is new) and I have seen some small errors like:

1-In the settings, when you deactivate the vibration and apply the changes, it does not really deactivate and continues to vibrate within the game.

2-I did not receive the daily rewards that give "diamonds" and when I received some the next day I had 0 diamonds again despite going on day 4 of the reward.

So far that's the only thing I've noticed in smite 2.

In smite 1 I liked how items were purchased that did not evolve by combining several purchases. The only errors in smite 1 are:

1-In each update they always take away about 10 voice packs and make me have to buy them again and when another update comes out they take them away again, it's an endless cycle.

2-In Assault when you get certain gods like "Fafnir, Gilgamesh" they no longer let you change gods because the "change" option is blocked. I understand that this happens with healers, but with tanks they also gasp even if they are not "healers."

They go very well with everything, good luck smite team!

Hey AbyKwon117, thanks for entering this reward! To be eligible for a prize, could you just elaborate a little more on the game as a whole, rather than specific issues and bugs? Here are some things to consider:

  • Do you feel the game is well balanced?

  • What are your thoughts on some of the minor kit redesigns and ability changes?

  • How does the new player experience fare?

  • Are there enough modes and variety?

  • How does it compare to SMITE 1?

When i first started playing Smite 2 it didnt really feel like Smite at all,it felt not good to play and honestly the lack of gods really put me off. Now i think Smite 2 is in a exclent spot and should continue to just do great,i do fear that some of the player base maybe be at a point of no return already. The game is well balanced now and has new items which is always good for a game like a MOBA,the fps is also better considering the perfomance problems we had at the start. Overall i do think Smite 2 is doing alot better than before in just a few months, for an Alpha the game is quickly moving foward and beginning to feel more interesting than Smite 1. I just hope the devs continue to listen to the fans and add the most popular gods to the game.

Ford James's avatar

Hey BabyPlutt0, thanks for entering this bounty! Could you expand on some of your points to flesh out your review a little more and ensure you're eligible for a reward? What else do you think they need to do to bring in a healthy player base? How does it compare to other MOBAs? What are the fans saying that you think the devs need to incorporate?

If you can address some of these in your submission and expand upon any other points, that'd be brill so we can award you!

Smite 2 is currently in early access with mixed reception:

Pros:

Visuals: Improved with Unreal Engine 5, making character models and environments more detailed and immersive.

Gameplay: Feels snappier with more satisfying combat mechanics.

Active Items: New system adds strategic depth, though some feel they lack impact compared to other MOBAs.

Cons:

Performance: Some users report unstable FPS, suggesting it's not yet optimized for all hardware.

Content: God pool is limited, which can affect gameplay variety.

Matchmaking: Early access has led to imbalanced matches due to mixed player skill levels.

Item System: Changes to cooldown and item stats have caused confusion for some players.

Bugs: As expected in an alpha, there are numerous bugs affecting gameplay.

Enthusiasts appreciate the direction and improvements, but there's critique over the game's readiness for early access, especially for those unfamiliar with the original Smite.

Some players feel it's not different enough from Smite 1 to justify the sequel tag, while others enjoy the fresh mechanics and look forward to its development.

Overall: Smite 2 shows promise with its graphical and mechanical updates but is hindered by typical early access issues like bugs and content scarcity. I

recommended for fans of the original Smite willing to endure alpha phase quirks, but newer players might find the learning curve steep or the experience lacking in polish.

S

SMITE 2 in Closed Alpha definitely has potential but it definitely needs time to improve. The graphics have already made a step forward, the textures and animations seem more dynamic and definitely smoother, but there is still room for improvement to make the player feel fully involved. The new modes are interesting. and definitely improved but there is still some polish missing. Compared to the first game, the interface is improved and more intuitive as well as the maps that seem to be better thought out. There is definitely room for improvement, but it already has a good starting point. Characters and gameplay still have some limitations, but we can work on them. Unfortunately the servers are not very stable yet and this leads to abandoning the game in many cases. The move to the new graphics engine has improved everything a bit like the lighting and particle effects but there are still some frame rate drops that make the game a bit difficult still.

Review of SMITE 2

SMITE 2 represents an ambitious evolution of its predecessor, bringing the world of gods into a renewed and technically advanced arena. The transition to a more modern graphics engine is evident, with impressive visual details, vibrant maps, and smoother animations. Classic gods return with updated designs, alongside an expanded roster featuring new deities from lesser-known mythologies, offering even greater variety for players.

The gameplay stays true to the formula that made SMITE unique: a third-person perspective that immerses players in the action, setting it apart from other MOBAs. However, SMITE 2 introduces new mechanics that enhance strategic depth, such as more dynamic item systems and improved divine abilities, making each match even more engaging. Game modes benefit from greater variety, with innovative additions like cooperative battles against mythological bosses or thematic events that shake up the pace of gameplay.

On the technical side, improved netcode reduces latency and ensures smoother online experiences, even during chaotic battles. However, some balancing issues between gods emerge, especially with new additions, though Hi-Rez Studios has a strong track record of addressing these through regular updates.

Another strength is the focus on storytelling. Seasonal events and lore fragments integrated into missions offer deeper immersion into the game’s universe, engaging players not only for the gameplay but also for the evolving narrative surrounding their battles.

Conclusion:
SMITE 2 is a worthy evolution of the franchise, capable of captivating both veterans and newcomers with technical improvements, new content, and increasingly rich and layered gameplay. Despite some balance imperfections, the overall experience is thrilling, making it a must-play for MOBA and mythology enthusiasts. 🌟 Rating: 8.5/10

SMITE 2 Closed Alpha Review

SMITE 2 builds upon the legacy of its predecessor, but as expected in an alpha stage, the experience is a mix of promise and pitfalls. What works so far is the refined visual fidelity—maps feel alive with dynamic vibrant lighting, making the battlegrounds immersive and more engaging than ever. The updated character models and animations also give the game a much-needed modernization while maintaining the iconic art style of the original SMITE.

Gameplay-wise, combat feels snappier and more responsive. However, balancing is still a glaring issue, with some gods feeling far too dominant, potentially alienating newer players.

To improve before beta, the developers should focus on balancing gods, optimizing performance for lower-end systems, and revamping the tutorial experience to welcome new players while respecting the old players. Customizable HUD options and more social tools, such as in-game clans or in game news about tournaments, would be excellent additions.

Another one of the greatest additions that just released is the aspect system which makes a god almost into 2 seperate gods cause of the diffrent playstyles you could pull of really hyped to see whats comming up in the future about that.

In comparison to SMITE 1, SMITE 2 feels like an evolution rather than a revolution—a game that retains its soul while striving to modernize. The potential is enormous, but achieving it will depend on community feedback and development focus. I’m eager to see where SMITE 2 goes from here.

G

I’m having tons of fun , AI bots are nicely scaled, the ammount of game modes , the building is more fun , but I do wish there was a shop in the game or more challenges to complete to feel more rewarding to play . It would be nice to, give us more of a incentive to play more

S

Smite 2 is the successor to the successful MOBAS Smite. It's my favorite game and a step in the right direction for the future. The new Unreal Engine makes the game look much more modern and the effects are really impressive. Unfortunately, the game doesn't play as smoothly as Smite. There's still a lot to be improved here, but that's why it's still in beta. The god selection is also large with almost 50 gods at the start, but still nowhere near as good as in Smite 1. Unfortunately, no skins have been carried over from Smite 1 and I would recommend everyone to give the game a chance.

In conclusion, it can be said that Smite 2 still needs some development time, but is definitely a step in the right direction to keep up with the MOBA genre in the future.
Also nice to hype Smite 2 with the Las Vegas Tournament, but Smite really need more Marketing, no presence at the Gamesom for example.

Hi SchildKeks, thanks for entering this reward! To be eligible for the $5 on offer however, we're looking for a little more about the game itself. Can you expand your review and tell us exactly why it's your favourite game, perhaps over other MOBAs available? What works about the game and what doesn't? Reviews exist to analyse and critique, not just describe, so think about why you'd recommend the game to a friend, what makes it so enjoyable for you? Thanks for understanding! ✌

Hi, I started playing smite 11 years ago and I have been playing smite 2 since the first alpha weekend. I played this game so much that it made me see the good and the bad. Let's start with the bad, honestly the only bad thing I see about the game now is the community that it split in smite 2 fans and smite 1 fans that hate smite 2 and I don t undestand why, let s get to the good. I don t understand why these players hate smite 2 when the game evolved so fast, the graphics is so much better than smite 1 and the game it s only in a beta state right now, the god pool maybe is low but they work hard and we get new gods so fast, we got almost 50 gods in less than one year and they are fantastic and the fact that some of them have asspect makes the game more versatile. I really love the fact that in smite 2 you can buy any item and make it work, in smite 1 we were limited by the magical and physical attribute of a god. I really enjoy the game and it evolves so fast in better that I can t wait to see what is next. Smite2 is the best moba ever!

So yeah, I really love this game because It's a MOBA that it's in first person, the game moves really well and I enjoy right now how the item building works also you have that satisfaction when you try a new build and it hits so hard or you get a build that makes you unkillable. I also really love the small things about the game, the small details on conquest map that they added since the alpha weekends, the phrases that gods use. I got some friends to try smite 2 for the new ue 5 graphics and now they love the game for how the gameplay feels, it's a new fresh smite that fells so nice. Oh and I was watching the titan talk last night, I can't wait for the new reward system, the wandering market, I think smite needed something like this to keep players around because now I feel like I play to unlock these rewards not just playing for mastery and rank.

Smite 2 Review: A Fantastic Evolution That Needs Refinement

Smite 2 builds upon the strong foundation of its predecessor, offering a fresh and engaging experience for fans of the franchise and newcomers alike. The game takes Smite's unique third-person MOBA formula to the next level, with enhanced visuals, deeper mechanics, and revamped systems. However, to truly compete with genre titans like Dota 2 and League of Legends, Smite 2 must address some key areas, particularly its UI design, modern features, and overall polish.

What Smite 2 Gets Right

  1. Third-Person Perspective Done Right
Smite 2 remains the only major MOBA that offers a third-person, over-the-shoulder perspective, and it continues to excel here. The sense of immersion and immediacy during battles is unmatched, making the player feel like they’re truly embodying gods and mythological figures. This perspective is a core strength that sets the game apart from its competitors.

  2. God Designs and Themes
The roster of gods in Smite 2 is better than ever. Each deity feels unique, with abilities that cleverly tie into their mythology while remaining balanced and fun to play. The new gods introduced in Smite 2 come with innovative mechanics, pushing creativity and keeping the roster fresh.

  3. Visually Stunning
The game’s graphical overhaul is breathtaking. Maps are detailed, animations are smoother, and spell effects are vibrant without being overwhelming. This visual upgrade makes matches feel dynamic and modern, appealing to both hardcore fans and new players.

  4. Improved Gameplay Mechanics
Smite 2 enhances its gameplay with tighter controls, improved hit detection, and more engaging itemization. These improvements make battles feel fluid, rewarding skill and strategy over randomness.

  5. Community Engagement
Hi-Rez Studios continues to engage with its community, listening to feedback and implementing changes. This strong player-developer relationship keeps the game alive and growing.

Where Smite 2 Needs Work

  1. User Interface (UI) Overhaul
The UI is functional but feels outdated compared to competitors. Menus can be clunky, and information isn’t always presented clearly. For example:

    • The in-game HUD needs better customization options to let players tailor the experience.

    • Stat tracking and post-match analysis lack depth, leaving players wanting more clarity on their performance.

    • Navigating the god selection screen can feel overwhelming and unintuitive for new players.

  2. Modern Features for a Competitive Edge
To compete with League of Legends and Dota 2, Smite 2 needs modernized systems, such as:

    • Enhanced Spectator Tools: Essential for growing its eSports scene. Features like multi-camera views, better replays, and detailed overlays would elevate Smite 2’s competitive presence.

    • Tutorial Improvements: The current tutorials do a decent job of teaching the basics, but they lack depth. A more robust onboarding process would help new players feel less intimidated.

    • Social and Community Features: Party systems, chat, and clan functionalities feel dated. Streamlining these would improve the social aspect of the game.

  3. Balancing and Meta Refinement
While Smite 2 introduces exciting new gods and items, the balance feels inconsistent at times. Certain gods or items can feel overpowered, creating frustration for players. Hi-Rez needs to prioritize regular patches to keep the meta fresh and balanced.

  4. Matchmaking and Ranked Play
Matchmaking is another area that needs refinement. Players frequently report mismatched skill levels in games, which can be discouraging. Ranked play also needs clearer progression systems and rewards to feel more rewarding.

How Smite 2 Can Compete with Dota 2 and League of Legends

To truly rival Dota 2 and League of Legends, Smite 2 must modernize. Key areas include:

  • Streamlined UI and UX: Intuitive menus, better HUD customization, and clear post-match stats.

  • Advanced Competitive Features: Improved matchmaking, enhanced spectator tools, and integrated eSports support e.g. watch games live in client.

  • Improved Tutorials: Better onboarding for new players with step-by-step tutorials, practice modes, and tips for each god which can be accessed while in queue.

Final Verdict

Smite 2 is a fantastic evolution of an already beloved game. Its unique perspective, mythological themes, and immersive gameplay set it apart in the MOBA genre. However, to compete with the giants like Dota 2 and League of Legends, it needs to modernize its systems, update its UI, and refine its competitive features.

If Hi-Rez Studios commits to addressing these issues, Smite 2 has the potential to carve out a larger slice of the MOBA market. For now, it’s an incredibly fun and unique experience that feels like it’s on the verge of greatness.

Score: 7/10
Great potential, but needs polish to truly shine.

Smite 2: An Authentic Follow-Up

Having been a Smite player since 2014, I can confidently assert that Smite 2 is a genuine continuation of the original. Fueled by a new engine, it features enhanced graphics while preserving the cherished art style.

Main Enhancements:

* Divine Revamp: Each deity has undergone enhancements to their abilities, appearances, and additional aspects.

* Item System: New items have been added, and current ones have been enhanced according to community suggestions.

* Enhance Flexibility: The major alteration is the elimination of constraints on item builds. Players can now equip any item to any god, irrespective of their role. This encourages innovation and exploration.

* Map Modifications: The jungle has been revamped with reduced barriers, facilitating easier movement and improved navigation. New XP camps located in side lanes provide extra farming chances.

First Reactions and Developer Feedback:

Although I was initially doubtful in the alpha phases, I am now genuinely impressed by the developers' commitment to community input. They have continually tackled issues and made substantial enhancements, leading to a genuinely enjoyable and captivating gameplay experience.

Suggestion:

I strongly suggest Smite 2 to all enthusiasts of MOBAs. Its creative attributes, enhanced gameplay, and dedication to player contentment establish it as a deserving successor to the original.

SMITE 2, the sequel to the popular third-person MOBA, has been available in early access since August 2024. Developed by Hi-Rez Studios using Unreal Engine 5, the game aims to enhance the original's experience with improved graphics, revamped gameplay, and a roster of mythological deities.

One of the most noticeable improvements is the visual upgrade. The transition to Unreal Engine 5 has resulted in more detailed character models and environments, providing a more immersive experience. However, some players have noted that certain character models appear overly polished, giving them a "plastic" look.

Gameplay mechanics have also undergone significant changes. The item system has been overhauled, introducing new active items that add depth to combat strategies. Despite these additions, some players feel that the changes are not substantial enough to differentiate the sequel from its predecessor.

The game's current state has elicited mixed reactions from the community. While some appreciate the fresh mechanics and visual enhancements, others express concerns about balance issues and the necessity of a sequel. The limited roster of deities compared to the original game has also been a point of contention.

As SMITE 2 approaches its free-to-play launch on January 14, 2025, the developers have announced the addition of new characters and game modes, including the introduction of Aladdin as a playable god. These updates aim to address community feedback and expand the game's content.

In summary, SMITE 2 offers a blend of enhanced visuals and gameplay tweaks that may appeal to both new players and veterans. However, the extent of its improvements over the original is still a topic of debate within the community. With ongoing updates and a shift to a free-to-play model, the game's reception may evolve as it continues to develop.
